What do you think about passions that weaken us ?

Whether it is physical or mental damage, why do you think that someone still chooses to do what he likes, despite of the side effects that can affect him ?

Also, what is your experience about " condemnable " pasions that you had or you're still having in your life ?

If you have no passion that weakens you, doesn't matter, you can still share your thoughts.

Update:

I'm glad that some of you found this question interesting.

I found your answers interesting too. Thanks for them !

There is still place for more opinions & happy week-end by the way ! :-)

Passion is not sign of weakness but it gives strength to all who hold passion and love in their life. One can't condemn it rather its appreciated in life. Thanks to Little bunny for having starred the question.Thank you.

I honestly think this is the biggest source of unhappiness and problems in life. We all know that doing the right thing would make us feel better long term but we give in to the here-and-now and it's toxic to the person and society

Like now - genuinely - I have just pulled an all-nighter to finish an essay that i have had a week to do but I just wasted the whole week to play games and watch TV and now I feel like crap and I would have felt great if I'd done it ages ago and I'd have probably done a much better job!

Its the same with diets: we all feel great when were healthy and fit and look good but we give in to the here-and-now yumminess of chocolate - so many people are obese and its bad for their health, their happiness, the way they look and feel etc. and its just so weird because we all know we'd feel better without them but we still give in!

Obv hard drugs and what not are the obvious passions the we give in to but I think if we look at our day-to-day lives and all the things we give into we can see its a weird part of the human condition.

Soz if this is rambling - like I said I've been up all night! Good question though xx

Our passions are the things are sensitive to. They are what we have the least amount of defense from, and because of that they whisper to the desires we try so hard to lock away. There are passions that are help us like following Jesus. It's okay to let passions like that to overtake us because it helps to benefit others. Some people have fallen in love with their passions and submit themselves to them, and that is extremely dangerous. But we can control our passion by choose the love of Jesus over the passions.

I think that the weakness (or whatever form of damage/deterioration) that is caused by a passion is just a test of the passion. If you weren't very passionate about your passion you wouldn't struggle through the damage, and it is in that way a test of dedication/passion.

Sometimes it's habit, or because it's familiar and feels comforting to think that at least one thing won't change. You know what to expect and take pleasure in the experience, despite the drawbacks that come afterwards.

Sometimes it's self-sabotage. Again, to go back to the familiar feeling of failure/depression/lack of change/hangover that we're used to and get some sort of comfort from, if not pleasure.

In actual fact, some of us are born... only to fulfill the passions (i mean, in the mode of passion)...

and those who like their passions truly........ certainly, don't care about the side effects and i think, our passions always strengthen our soul in mysterious ways.. :)

Very interesting debate --every weakness can become one"s strength or strength may turn into weakness, it is how one uses his assets, invests them to grow or to destroy himself
