Why do you think it is that Americans don't stand up to our government?
Especially with cases like gun control where the majority want background checks and the Congress & Senate do nothing? Is there anything, in your opinion that we can even do to stop politicians who only vote based on who is lining their pockets with money or just waiting for their next election opportunity?

Americans are very often hypocrites: they want more government spending, and lower taxes. And Congress has responded to this desire; they are acting on the behest of "the people." As long as Congress and government in general has the extraordinary power to pick winners and losers, government officials will always find a way to make it worth their time to vote one way or another. Government officials never give away power freely. You will always have bargaining and logrolling under the current US Constitution.
In a Republic, representatives are elected to vote in their best conscience; they are not elected to directly represent the views and interests of those who voted for them. Of course, when they know that they have their power and their next election on the line, they will make good use of their power and exchange it for favours and campaign financing.
I think the election cycle should be 30 days in all cases, ranging form state representative to POTUS. The media makes a lot of money off of having an election year, but generally no one else comes out a winner. People waste their time and energy on keeping their government going, and they don't seem to care to be very informed either.
I think citizens should be automatically registered for voting, and I think that all campaign financing should be fully disclosed in advertisement, and available for people to research. For example, Republicans take a lot of money from energy companies, and Democrats take a lot of money from labour unions. In both cases, the public should know this so they can understand that the candidates are or may be representing certain interests.
The bottom line is really that especially the Senate's power and prestige has been so hyped for decades that you can really make a buck and a career off of being a senator. It is no longer done to serve America, just like the Roman senate was eventually corrupted. Right now, there is a growing amount of senators that are leaving the senate, and few rising stars that are coming to replace them. This is because they reckon they can be of more use as House Representatives and state Governors. After this starts to happen, I believe the Senate will start to regain its useful function as people no longer try to get elected for their own good, but despite it.

The majority don't want more gun control. That's false. They need to implement existing laws before trying to make new ones. For one, stop voting in the same idiots just because you like that he supports 2 homo.s shacking up.

Most politicians are liars and thieves so the being informed and voting for what is right instead of a party is the solution.

Educate the younger generations on true patriotism and reinstall this countries basic principles in which it were founded upon. No more religion in politics, no more federal reserve, protection of the 2nd amendment, etc. Revolutionize the minds instead of calling for psychical revolution.
