What makes anything called anything. Someone came up with a name for humans and now we collectively call ourselves humans (as far as English is concerned).

How are we different from other things? We look different, we have different genes, we have different capabilities, and some would say we received the breath of life from God.

What makes us human in the eastern way of thinking?

A human that conforms to the societal norms. Even the bible says you're a beast if you give yourself up to sin.

What makes us humans, well not body because every object in the universe has some kind of a body mass, so i think it must be the something we do, we have been described by scientist as "tool users" which other creatures cant do. Also it must have something to do with us having emotions.

PS THATS A REALLY GOOD QUESTION, I THINK IT GOT EVERYONE THINKING

OK, millions of years of evolution has taken us from a single cell germ to a genetically unique animal "homo sapiens". This is probably not the whole answer, homo sapiens has been around for somewhere between 40 and 80 thousand years depending on your reading. In that time there has been another sort of evolution going on, a sort of technological and social evolution. An evolution of thinking that has taken us from a smart animal with no language to modern man exploring the galaxy. We learned to hunt co-cooperatively, to imagine strategies for better hunting by adapting successful strategies previously used and follow the game geographically with the seasons. Eventually we learned to communicate effectively with limited spoken languages, capture animals alive to kill later, days even weeks after the hunt when the weather was not conducive to good hunting. To make food from the grasses growing all around. After many thousands of years this became the very basic rudiments of agricultre. About Eight thousand years ago with the introduction seasonal cropping and grazing animals for meat production came a whole new leaf in the book of history of man. Humans were for the first time ever, able to have permanent homes, without being nomadic in order to keep foraging and hunting for food to survive. This is probably when Humans started to be human as we think of them today. Without living constantly searching for food, the evolution of thinking really started to take off and thats why more has happened in the past 8 thousand years in terms of achievements, than in any other time in human history. Humans were able to spend more and more time thinking about problems - finding solutions, inventing things. Nearly all of human history has occured pre-agricultre but all human achievement has occured post agricultre. So in terms of humanity, the more time humans have that is not devoted to survival, the more human they become.

The constant evolution of thinking is what makes a human being different from any other primate. Other primates still live in the jungles as they did 100,000 years ago because their ideas have not evolved past subsistence.

We share a lot of things with animals, but I think what makes us human is our conscience as in our inner voices, the ability to create/reason/compute within our minds.
