Supplement to increase a dogs stamina?

I have a 21 month old mixed breed. She is fairly good sized, 25" tall and a lean 66 lbs. I compete in rally obedience and agility with her.

Her problem is she has very little stamina. My 8 yr old dog can run circles around her. I take then out to play ball, after 10-15 minutes she is worn out, while my 8 yr old is still going strong. After a 10 minute break, the old dog is fine, the youngster is still panting, and breathing hard for another 20 minutes.

The heat does get to her, and I have a cooling coat on order to keep her comfortable at trials. They are on a good quality dog food. She does have a vet appt for a check up, check for heart issues, run a blood panel, etc.

Just wondering if anyone has used any type of supplement to help increase stamina.

I'm looking into Power Boost, Go Dog, or Endurance.

Update:

As far as we know, she's a Pit/Lab/Boxer/GSD but we call her a Mystery Mutt. My 8 yr old is a Pit Bull.

She is on a joint supplement, and a quality food.

Friends of mine, who also run agility have had very good luck with cooling coats. The kind I'm getting comes highly recommended from a friend who has a coated GSD and a Belgian Shepherd.

She gets plenty of exercise and is having a blast doing agility and rally. She is more than capable of doing agility and she enjoys it. If she didn't like it, we wouldn't do it. I tried Rally with my Pit Bull, and she HATED it, we stopped after she got her first title. She just wasn't happy doing it.

My 3rd dog doesn't like agility or rally, so he does neither.I'm not going to have a dog do something they don't enjoy.

These are just my first thoughts hope you don't get offended....she's not genetically capable or ready yet to perform the level you want her to...supplementing isn't going to fix that...you'll just wear her out if you try to push her way beyond what she is physically able to.

I've heard from posters here that the cooling coats restrict air and blood flow so really don't do a good job to keep cool.

(this was my question and answers about cooling coats

I mean you can try supplementing but best to get the nutrients from a good diet instead.

I feed a prey model diet and give glucosamine for prevention and omega 3 fish oil.

If you really want a supplement, try food based..so many have ingredients I just wouldn't feed dogs though but here's a couple sites..

    http://www.earthanimal.com/home-cooking/daily-raw-...

http://www.pethealthandnutritioncenter.com/ Biopreperation is pretty good, has others that look good also.

Any supplement that says will increase stamina I think is a marketing gimick...good health can increase staminia..feeling their best..so that comes from nutrition that's right for them not power boost imho.

ADD- What I meant was, that it's not genetically possible to give her more stamina than what she has, not that she can't do it or doesn't like it..but if she's healthy, on a grain free diet (carbs give dogs energy but they crash more than people because they have poor ability to regulate blood sugar), then I just didn't want you falling for any scams that's all.

Do you know what breeds she is mixed with? I have two mixes, both can be energetic, but tire easily. One is a 5 year old chow/husky mix--he can appear to be crazy high energy, because he loves to run like the wind, but he's tired after only a few minutes and ready for a nap. The other is an 20 month old golden/JRT/pom mix, which is energetic and wanting to play for much longer in the day than my other dog, but when he goes to agility class, he tires just as quickly. They are definitely not herding breeds--those are the sort of dogs can can go-go-go all day. Mine can not.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your dog. Most people would be very happy to have a dog that will tire out so quickly, so you don't have to spend hours of your day walking them just to tire them out enough so they'll behave. But, it can be difficult for agility trials, when your dog doesn't want to perform at the end of a trial day.

I've used the Go Dog packets. I think they help a little, but I sort of have to coax him to drink it. The thing that really boosts his energy and gets him enthusiastic at the end of a trial day is simply hosing him down with water. If it's been a long, hot day, I'll give him a Go Dog packet, but I would not use these very often, and I'm really not sure if the ingredients are good for dogs to have regularly.

Source(s): My 5 year old dog is currently competing in agility, and my younger dog is currently in training.

I don't have an answer, but I'm starring your question because I have the same problem. My 10 year old Tibetan Mastiff mix can run circles around my 5 year old APBT mix, and she was just at the vet and declared in fine health. I want to see what kinds of answers you get so I can hopefully find an answer for my dog. Good luck!

Hi there. If anyone knew the answer to your question then they would make millions of dollars. No one actually knows what causes breast cancer except that it can be inherited if other female family members have had it. Sometimes it just happens with no hereditary cause. The cancer cells are in the body and it just takes something - no one knows what - for the cells to multiply and become cancerous.
