Why do people believe the lies media tell us about chastity?

I'm pretty sure that many more people stay chaste until marriage than the media leads us to believe. And I'm also sure that, among those who do not, many wish that they did. It's like it is a country full of people living lives they know they should not, but they enslave themselves to the culture around them anyway. Why do we do it? Is America a lot more chaste than we think we are?

Yeah! Screw numbers and statistics. You're "sure". Now that we have your endorsement, we can all ignore everything reported in the lamestream media, right? Just like how Nate Silver, a trained statistician, was totally wrong about the outcome of the election, and unskewed polls totally called it for Romney because they were "sure" that everything being reported was a liberal ploy. And that's why we have our first Mormon president.

I wouldn't accept the media's version of morality, or their opinions on the subject. I like to think that some logic and reason are actually creeping into our society. The idea that a bride must stay chaste until marriage is certainly one, that has caused as much misery in the western world, as disease and war. As an oversimplification, would you buy a car without test driving it? Isn't it kind of stupid to sign up for life, without knowing if you and your mate are sexually compatible?

Virginity lost it's usefulness when we quit trading girl children, like commodities. A primitive tribesman, didn't want to buy a girl that might be pregnant with the opponents child. Beyond that, virginity is useless.

We may eventually come to realize that chastity is no more desirable than malnutrition." Alex Comfort

No I don't believe very much this awful Labour Government tells us - and the Labour leaning media in Scotland aren't much different. The Herald newspaper is a disgrace compared to the paper it used to be. I just stopped reading it - it wasn't worth the money - the Sun has more impartial journalism!

I agree with you. Television shows in particular make it appear like virgins are either dysfunctional or nonexistent. Well, I am waiting for marriage, and most of my friends (in their 20's & 30's) either did wait until they married or are still waiting for their wedding night. Only some of them are Christians, so it's not only a faith-based decision. Many of them just don't see the point of giving the most intimate part of themselves to someone who may not be around tomorrow.

Like-minded people tend to find each other (as well as encourage and influence each other), so those who have all non-virgin friends will scoff at the idea that many people are waiting anymore because they simply aren't around those people or ideas much.

The pendulum certainly is swinging that way. About 25-50% of my 25 year old daughter's friends are waiting until they get married. Most of the boys who they are dating have apparently said the same.

  • If you're so sure, do you have any stats to back up your claim?

I wish I could find the link, but I read an article where one woman said she and her husband waited until they were married and discovered they were not sexually compatible. They ended up divorcing.

And I didn't wait for marriage, and I have no regrets. My marriage broke up for reasons totally unrelated to the fact that neither of us was a virgin when we met.

No, chaste basically doesn’t exist in main stream America, and the media more promotes and glamorizes it than anything else.

America is as chaste as Kendra Wilkinson.

OK, I don't know anybody that waited until they were married. I certainly didn't. I do not wish I had.
