as long as we keep a lawyers mindset... then yes...
when we look at a word such as 'debate' we see that it actually places us on a side..which will lay claim to a territory... and in such things... we need to call in the law... Johnny Law seems to win.... remember Breezey... that song...? I fought the Law and the Law Won ~ ( "can I type or what) haha.. sorry wrote once rather than won!").
Law in dispute, as land or territory to which two parties lay claim
there is a better way... it's called Grace!
((hugs)) don't take the bate! xo..(bait) don't bite the hook... :) haha..
~~~~~~
To all concerned! Regarding the need to *Hit and Run!*...then do a back up, and repeat!
I came to answer this question to give extra insight as to the attitudes concerning ' debating' . We were told by Jesus Christ to rise above the letter of the law... so that we could be moving in the Spirit of Love... When I come back and see, the needless thumbs down given ... I am astounded by the sheer ignorance of this. There is not a bad answer posted here. So why the need to thumb others down for an answer? There was a time in Yahoo, when people loved to offer a variety of thoughts so we could be encouraged, loved... grow together. We would be delighted to offer that which we could to help others see, so we all could learn as those who love one another!
Be just and fair with others is what every *True Religion* professes and teaches. Get out of the side wars that defeat everyone!
Though we are not all one, we do owe it to ourselves and to God... to move in ways that bring honor to all men. In this life we have contact with a variety of people... and here in this forum no less.
As those who say we believe in God, it is important to be ethical in our dealings with others... to not get into silly endless *silly* slaying debates with others...
Those who think they are first will be last, says Jesus Christ... and God is for all of us...not just some of us...as God is no respector of person... and we all fall short of the glory that belongs to God..
If some of you have a grievance with me... my mail is open... God bless...
Often God brings people into our lives who will challenge our perceptions... etc... All are brought in, because they need our love and care....
Lastly... God has gifted us... to utilize His Wisdom and Grace so we can collectively reach out and lend His Helping Hand... so that we * ALL* might share in His Loving Compassions graciously.
God bless. us all
Here's Piaget's (famous psychologist) dialectic: he thought of learning as being the interaction of subjects with objects.
When you talk about the world, you do not talk about the world. You talk about your relationship toward that world (that's Piaget's dialectic). Better still, the idea is reflexive: when I talk about you talking about the world, I talk about my relationship toward you who talk about the world.
If I want to make it even crazier, I can borrow an idea from Freitag. Language is a sort of background following which everything makes sense... in a very fundamental sense, my perception depends upon my interpretation of the world (because my life is symbolically mediated, my experience of the world is bound by the limits of the symbols I use to represent that same world to me). And that idea can also be reflexively applied because I need to use symbols to explain the above.
EDIT
Is everything debatable. Yes -- and paradoxically, even this answer is.
All things may be debatable, but not because of any ridiculous notions of subjectivity.
Uncertainty in knowledge does not imply subjectivity.
Subjectivity is nothing more than ignorance rationalized as truth. Debate is the pursuit of absolute truth through enlightened reason.
A Philosophical question indeed...
A Philosophical response to a Philosophical question...
- One may observe things through a six inch window, or one may observe things through an infinite window. It all depends upon ones ability to observe.
~~~~~
All things within the framework of the human mind are indeed debatable.
The human mind has had certain limits placed upon it.
As long as one stays within the framework of those limits there is always room for debate.
When a human being transcends the human mind, there will be no need for further debate.
When the human mind has finally been transcended, all things that one has understood pryor to that transcendence, one will immediately recognize as a falsehood and lie.
When the human mind has been transcended one will finally 'observe' those things that were once previously 'unseen'.
- We human beings dwell in the world of the 'seen'.
- What we human beings fail to observe, is the world of the 'unseen'.
The world of the 'unseen' is many times greater, than the world of the 'seen'.
Within the world of the 'seen', there is debate.
Within the world of the 'unseen', there is unity.
~~~~~
*footnote - That which has been spoken of above is also extremely debatable, especially as long as one has not developed the ability to transcend the human mind. Within that transcendence is precisely where the need of any further debate, will come to a sudden and abrupt end.
At that point, there will only be "agreement".
Peace be always with you.
Yes they really are, I can give a decent debate about almost anything even if I don't agree with it. It takes a wise person to understand an argument without having to accept it.
If you believe that everything is perception, that morality is subjective and are somewhat a nihilist then yes it's easy to think this way. You view the world different from the rest.
Nothing exists on a conscious level outside of the brain so it's all subjective [ unless God is real ]
I will go against the crowd and say No... Love is not debatable.. Everyone may have a different view on it.. but it is still LOVE. Especially when it's Real Love. We can talk till we are blue in the face, but NOTHING can change that. It is only us that are mixed up about it.. Love remains LOVE. (-:
Was only talking about Real Love with a very special friend of mine recently... (((Hugs))) (-:
To those who want them be? :)
People who like debating on almost anything rush to every opening to 'prove' something ----of themselves, and of their responding opponents in opinion. Yet, very often, the true sentiment of the original subject of debate gets lost in the mounts of self-gratification. It is the 'fool' who always seeks recognition from what he knows.....as though his knowledge of things is but all what makes one great. But what is remarkable about knowing how to throw things on other faces?----if it just stuffs the brain and inflates the pride? Isn't that -----hollow?
The wise keeps the secrets of the world ---until the world seeks them from him ----to share.....without a question.
maybe, but all things are not debatable as each person experiences them;
we can debate the idea of psychics. gnostics and mystics, but unique, perception expanding intuitive experiences of
for instance;
telepathy, unity, transcendance will probably withstand any argument.
No they are not. There is subjective truth and absolute truth. It is subjective truth that can be debatable. Absolute truth, or God's truth, need not be debated because of its very unchangeable nature.
