True Story
Awake and behold the day I've prepared!
Okay, okay, okay, I say as I put on my bathrobe and slippers,
shuffling to the kitchen for my first cup of coffee.
Outside on the back porch, I wipe the sleep from my eyes
and hear the buzz of a hummingbird before I see it,
diving with another friend as they land on my feeder.
Then a sparrow flits about like a bat, zigzagging through the air
as though it were on its own private roller coaster.
Eventually it lands in an elm, freshly budded out and dressed
in full green.
The hummers have moved on to bright yellow violas, planted in
hanging baskets next to the feeders.
I smile as I head back into the house and flop myself on the couch,
sliding my computer onto my lap.
But something catches my eye out the front window,
it looks like a horse, but the lines aren't quite right.
I get up to investigate, get a closer look,
only to find it's an elk. By this time,
three more have joined her. Clumsily, they meander
down the country road, at least, until our four dogs catch their scent.
They bolt for the elk, and in a blink of the eye, all four jump
the neighbor's five foot fence. From a standing position!
These "clumsy" creatures just fly up and over,
leaving the dogs and me to just stare.
The sky has lost the pink of sunrise by now;
the shining sun highlights patches of snow
still hidden in the crevices of the peaks of our mountains.
Two hours of my morning raced by as minutes. I've not even thought
of a second cup of joe.
Then I recall the first words heard in my spirit,
Awake and behold the day I've prepared!
I thank Him for all He's created
and eagerly await
the rest of my day.
k, title is "Behold"

Ahh....it was about two weeks ago
that I glanced out my kitchen window.
I saw six of Brook Park's finest
tazing what looked to be a Jamaican fellow.
After hog tying and throwing this poor sot
into a cruiser then racing away,
I imagined the drama was over....BUT NO!
The neighbors cat was immediatly on scene
lapping at droplets of blood left on the curb.
I'm not sure whom to thank for my morning vision
or perhaps whom to blame.
I eagerly await "my mountain"

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for letting me experience that moment of magic and beauty with you. I have such longng for experiences like that- and I am so trapped in this city, which grows more Godless and less humane every day, people with their eyes holding windows out to the vacuum of apathy and the dark matter of desoeration and fear, hunger and malice. Predators and prey, at once. I wish the elks would visit me but no, if they did they would be killed and consumed in seconds flat.
And I don't mean just the meat. What this poem depicts spiritually iis what is completely lacking from my environment. And I certain;y have not found it in any church here where there are the holier than thou spiteful upper middle class, bestowing government bulk foods to the rest of the congregation who are there for charity, hating being there but wanting to survive without effort of sacrifice.
I am being judgemental. But when there is an exception I pay heed, and I try to help when and where I can. Mostly, I try to stay sane and true to my faith which I have always had, just never put a name or a textbook to.
Thank you as I go to read this again, more slowly as to experience every nuance within.

The responses were all just fine. Very much like non-verbal chatting if you ask me.Or point gaming. A bad system for this type of forum. - ?Lv 78 years ago
This watercolor of a sonnet washes over
the reader and soothes.
Your palette is filled with colors
that blend, ever so softly, with knowing brushstrokes.
Touching and well composed, Sue.

Beautifully written. Great beginning.
I loved the part about the "horse" not looking right..., the elk jumping the fence, your description of the sky and mountains---all of it is just wonderful.

OMG, I rarely if ever say that, but Oh my gosh I am so right there, in so many references you've shared. This is a big hug and thank you from me, enjoying hot tea on my own back porch. I may even need a tissue or two for this Ma. You are a special one in our ranks, and again, thanks. I'll add a smile and another hug.

I love it when you wake me up like this! Too darn bad I didn't see it sooner you would have sparked my poetic side. This is beautiful and I can see you and you're beautiful too.
