Are there any songs that have touched you or made you cry?
For me there have been a few and I could write a big list of them but instead I’m just going to say the one song that really touched me the most was a song called God’s Will by Martina McBride and I still cry when I hear it or see it on TV sometimes ‘cause it is so sad but there is also a positive message in this song and that is not to take life for granted. Another song was In My Daughter’s Eyes and I cried when I heard that the first time too. I have a 9 year old who was diagnosed with Autism and without going into details I was raped when I was 19 and got pregnant and as hard as that was for me I knew I had to be strong for her ‘cause she needed her Mummy and she ended up saving me.
Here are the music videos and the lyrics to the songs.
"God's Will"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCRrrP0EhPc
I met God's Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves
It hid the braces on his legs at first
His smile was as bright as the August sun
When he looked at me
As he struggled down the driveway, it almost
Made me hurt
Will don't walk too good
Will don't talk too good
He won't do the things that the other kids do,
In our neighborhood
[Chorus:]
I've been searchin', wonderin', thinkin'
Lost and lookin' all my life
I've been wounded, jaded, loved and hated
I've wrestled wrong and right
He was a boy without a father
And his mother's miracle
I've been readin', writin', prayin', fightin'
I guess I would be still
Yeah, that was until
I knew God's Will
Will's mom had to work two jobs
We'd watch him when she had to work late
And we'd all laugh like I hadn't laughed
Since I don't know when
Hey Jude was his favorite song
At dinner he'd ask to pray
And then he'd pray for everybody in the world but him
[Chorus]
Before they moved to California
His mother said, they didn't think he'd live
And she said each day that I have him, well it's just
another gift
And I never got to tell her, that the boy
Showed me the truth
In crayon red, on notebook paper, he'd written
Me and God love you
I've been searchin', prayin', wounded, jaded
I guess I would be still
Yeah that was until...
I met God's Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves
In My Daughter's Eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLS0Y40WwlA
In my daughter's eyes,
I am a hero,
I am strong and wise,
And I know no fear,
But the truth is plain to see,
She was sent to rescue me,
I see who I want to be,
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes,
Everyone is equal,
Darkness turns to light,
And the world is at peace,
This miracle god gave to me,
Gives me strength when I am weak,
I find reason to believe,
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger,
How it puts a smile in my heart,
Everything becomes a little clearer,
I realize what life is all about,
It's hanging on when your heart is had enough,
It's giving more when you feel like giving up,
I've seen the light,
It's in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes,
I can see the future,
A reflection of who I am and what will be,
And though she'll grow and someday leave,
Maybe raise a family,
When i'm gone I hope you see,
How happy she made me,
For i'll be there,
In my daughter's eyes
The Blunt Ugly Truth
This isn't specifically a country music question and just 'cause you don't believe in God doesn't give you the right to shove your opinion down other people's throats.
I like some of the older country music artists like Crystal Gayle, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Slim Dusty and I don't like a lot of the pop stuff either but Martina is really good and I don't think there are many singers as good as her.

Play anything you want in this section. We have been doing it for years now. It's more for the love of music than it is for pop or rock.
The only song that has ever done that to me, is a song by Harry Belafonte, "Take My Mother Home". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GLSKM5YtRE
The day my mother died, I played this song all night long, over and over and until it was day light again. And there was a tear on my cheek through out the whole time.
take care

This song that was written around the time of the Civil War called "Will He Remember". Near the end the notes turn sharp in a way, and it reminds me of a throat closing up because of bitter, sad tears falling.

The song that makes me cry the most is a song called "My Immortal" by Evanescence. Beautiful , but sad written lyrics. A very powerful song that brings me to tears from the very first line of the song being sung. Every time. Amy Lee can sing the hell out of that song.

Both versions of "Save the Children". I think Marvin Gaye's version is a true classic and Bono's version is breathtaking. Marvin Gaye was a prophet. His lyrics parallel with 'what's going on' today.
Zapp's "Be Alright". This one gets to my heart. The melody is familiar thanks to the 2Pac anthem "Keep Ya Head Up". Marvin, Roger and 2Pac will always live on through their music.

Not many songs have made me cry, but the few that have are all hip-hop songs, interestingly enough:
"Street Lights" by Kanye West (this is from his fourth album which was really more of a baroque pop album as opposed to hip-hop, but Kanye is still generally considered hip-hop)
"Sing About Me..." Kendrick Lamar
"Real" Kendrick Lamar

Family Portrait by P!nk is a song that never fails to make me emotional. Basically it's about split families. The part at the end when she sings "daddy don't leave" really breaks me!
