Ideas please for location to spend honeymoon in September?
They are a young couple who seek romantic place, sunshine, a few cafes and restaurants, a marina maybe, clean areas for swimming, plenty of character, However not a resort that will be dead at that time of year.

Italy would be great in September. The Amalfi Coast would meet your criteria.

Are they looking to leave the US or somewhere inside the states?
If they stay inside the states I'd recommend checking out Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows Kamuela in Hawaii. It's a great little independent resort.
Or if you aren't looking to fly all the way to Hawaii. In San Diego there is Paradise Point Resort and Spa which is it's own little private island located right across from Seaworld.
On the other coast, you have The Biltmore Hotel in Palm Springs, Florida

Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, it will still be hot during the day. Really anywhere in the Canary Islands.
Playacar in Mexico, we stayed at the Riu Yutacan Hotel through Thomsons and would recommend, in fact my in-laws are going in October!
