They can be. Music is and has often been linked to emotional matters and many of the great writers of history have spoken of it as such.

I also find that music is often good at arousing feelings in the listener, even when one cannot personally identify with the words of a song or the thematic content. For example I can think of the song "Forever Autumn" (which is included in the "War of the Worlds" musical) and appreciate the feelings of sadness and longing just from the tune, even though I've never lost a lover (or had one to lose).

I frankly don't have a song at the moment, though I have a tune in my head...

Of course they do. Personally i dont know how to express emotions otherwise i find it difficult to explain how I'm feeling sometimes and I hate showing my vulnerable emotions to other people so YES i definately do think its true.!

At the moment im really feeling Sara Bareilles song Brave....its exactly how i feel right now and your question kinda made me remind me of the song again; it shows that emotions are expressed thru music. Listen to it and you'll see what i mean!!

yes I agree with you. songs and music can perfectly represent what are our feelings in a certain moment, when we are happy we want to listen to a song which describes our happiness, if we are sad, we tend to listen to sad songs, it always happens to me, because I think music can really help us...

I adore listen to Stereophonics'.. one of their songs, "Local boy in the photograph" reminds me when I was a child, and my 5 years old friend died in a car accident..

but, at the moment I am listening to "Indian summer" that song makes me think about someone I thought I have lost...
