Do water turtles bite?
Recently my older brother brought home a couple water turtles from his friend's mom. They're really little and a little energetic, and so far they haven't bitten us. But we've held them, all that, but I would just want to make sure so I'm prepared when I do handle one.

Yes, they can bite, and quite hard.
Please ensure you know how to care for your new pets. Do lots of research. Turtles are hard to care for, and most die before reaching adulthood due to improper care :(
They need a large tank; 10 gallons per inch of turtle...so two 5 inch turtles need at LEAST a 100 gallon tank. Most common aquatic turtle species such as the RES can reach 12 inches! One adult turtle needs a minimum tank size of 120-250gallons, even more room for two turtles!
Turtles need a water heater, water filter, and basking spot with a heat lamp AND UVB light! Without UVB, turtles get MBD and die rather quickly :(
Also research a healthy variety of foods to feed the turtles! Best of luck, and strive to give these little guys the care and attention they deserve!:)

Yes, they bite. And turtles should be handled only when absolutely necessary if you want them to live as long as possible.

Yeah they can. In fact big ones like alligator snapping turtles can take off a finger if you aren't careful.

Not much chance, if you are in the water. On land, it's another matter.

All animals have the potential to bite... if they don't have the potential, they probably aren't alive...
