8th grade math question?

Hello, i need to create a rule for a linear function. For each increase by 2 in the x value, the y value increases by 1. How would i write a rule using this information? Explantations of how you got the answer are welcome. 10 points to first best answer! Thanks

    A linear function is....a line. The amount the line changes in y for every x is called the slope.

    The equation looks like y=mx+b where m is the slope.

    The slope is defined as the rise (y) over the run (x).

    So your y=+1 and your x=+2, so the slope would be 1/2.

    And the rule would be y=1/2x. There is no b since your line doesn't move left or right!

    This can be written in point slope form. Point slope form is: y - y1 = m(x - x1). The y1 and x1 represents the change in x and y on the line. So if the x value increases by 2, x1 = 2. If the y value changes by 1, y1 = 1. Plug in, and you have your line equation. You can write it simply as y=x/2, but that's no fun.

    Linear Functions are always in the form y = ax + b..........i

    Increase x by 2 and reduce y by 1. So y - 1 = a(x + 2) + b

    y - 1 = ax + 2a + b

    y = ax + 2a + b - 1............ii

    Compare i and ii

    ax = ax

    2a + b - 1 = b

    2a = b - b + 1

    2a = 1

    a = 1/2

    So from y = ax + b, y = 1/2 *x + b

    2y = x + 2b.......b is a constant.

    to respond to a proportion problem, you are able to desire to first replace the % right into a decimal. So, while you're multiplying by using sixty two%, you will replace that to .sixty two. Then only multiply the quantity by using .sixty two. to illustrate. sixty two% of fifty. you will multiply 50 circumstances .sixty two. (make constructive to multiply as typical, then flow the decimal over 2 places.) you will get 31.0 as your answer. bear in mind that for the time of a notice problem, "of" regularly refers to multiplication.
