I want to stop being a vegetarian-help?

1. Is that hypocritical?

I feel bad for stopping. Should I?

I feel like I could become a pescetarian quite easily. However, I'm still wary of the fish market.

2.What fish/crustacean industries should I avoid? I know the shrimp market is horrible.

3. If I'm concerned about animal rights, what brands should I not buy?

If you are concerned about animal rights, the only way you be completely certain you are staying within your personal boundaries is to buy fish and meat from places that (1) let you inspect the way their meats and fish are processed (no major brands will let you do this), that (2) you catch and butcher yourself or (3) that you can be certain have not abused the animal prior to using it as food. Your local health food markets will have a lot of brands and meats that meet these requirements--or most of them. You can buy fish and meat from local producers, too.

Personally, I don't think you are hypocritical or ought to feel bad. ANIMALS eat other animals for food. PLANTS grow in animal products--decomposed animal bodies and feces make up a lot of the soil plants are grown in--and you have nothing to do with that--it's nature's way of making soil. And human beings are designed to eat and digest almost all of the foods they eat, natural or otherwise. There's nothing wrong with being vegetarian, omnitarian, pescetarian or vegan--but you can't control the entire way nature works--so my thoughts are you should eat what you LIKE to eat and what you're comfortable eating, and try to get as much balance and nutrition out of it that you can get. I also feel that meat producers and packers are pretty horrible--but the issue is too big for fixing throughout most of the world--if you want to eat, you're going to have to become comfortable eating some things you may not agree with or that are produced in ways you don't like. There are a lot of things I will not support by buying them: most chicken, Florida tomatoes, GMO foods--I feel these can be not only irresponsible, but downright dangerous to consume. But that's just MY opinion. You have to find what suits you. And learn as much as you can about how your food is produced--that makes a difference to know when you shop.

Yes, it is hypocritical. If you're concerned about animal rights, then you shouldn't be eating meat. You don't pay people to abuse animals if you don't want animals to get hurt.

You will get more helpful answers if you place this question in the general "Food & Drink" section. Vegetarians are not the people from whom to seek meat eating advice.

    1. you are asking people in a VEGETARIAN/VEGAN forum for support to start eating animals........... not a good strategy. ALL ANIMAL INDUSTRIES ARE HORRIBLE.

if you are concerned about animal rights, you should be vegan.

Well, that's up to you. But recent research tells us that fish don't have the ability to feel pain. Oysters don't have a central nervous system...neither do plants...so they don't feel pain.
