Do you believe in a higher deity? Why or why not?

Be us independent or dependent of it, why do you believe or why you don't?

I believe in a higher deity because, how can a such detailed object appear out of nothing?

Even though I do believe, I don't believe it involves too much in our world, or even care for us.

    I don't know it there is a higher deity, i just don't know. But i chose not to believe because i feel as though i can do more with myself without the having faith in any form of deity, there is so much to learn out in the world, and so much is restricted if you were to believe in a deity, keep in mind i am referring to being a christian, catholic, Islamic.. etc. But i want to make this clear, i have no problem with people who are of religious faith. I only have problems with those filled with ignorance religious or not.

    I believe that I don't have the slightest idea what such a thing is. I try to relate to it and all I get is that I am no more than a vicious little being eating the planetary resources up and turning things into waste a such a fast rate that eventually it is really going to clog the place up bad. Other than that I have hope. I hope God knows what is going on. Does that qualify for something like what your talking about? Even if I feel that with all my hope, I do not just stand around and do nothing. I try to understand and coordinate with reality the best I can. It is just that what is reality? Do I try to be the best I know how to be and do what we all do best? Or do I try to be better than that and not do what the rest of us do? Or perhaps some of the things the rest of us do? Actually I just give it a little try to not be like some other people but in the end I guess it is best to be me. Whatever that is. And let God be whatever He is whether it be your idea and impersonal or otherwise more personal for others who see a Father figure in that Deity you take as impersonal. Either way it is all good.

    Here is a passage from "The Big Book" ( Alcoholics Anonymous) written by Bill Wilson one of it's founding members that describes well some of my reasons for believing in God, deity, Higher Power, call him/it what you will;

    "I was not an athiest. Few people really are, for that means blind faith in the strange proposition that this universe originated in a cipher and aimlessly rushes nowhere. My intellectual heroes, the chemists, the astronomers, even the evolutionists, suggested vast laws and forces at work. Despite contrary indications, I had little doubt that a mighty purpose and rhythm underlay all. How could there be so much precise and immutable law and no intelligence? I simply had to believe in a Spirit of the Universe, who knew neither time nor limitation."

    ~~~ 'Beliefs' are like itches, we have them or not!
    There is no 'why'! They do not require 'justification!
    'Beliefs' parallel 'logic' as a different way of knowing! Not better, not worse, just different way of knowing different things.
  • - No, because there isn't one.
    Pretty much the same reason you don't believe that exactly 27 purple teddy bears are orbiting Saturn.
