I bought 72 watt (90 watt equivalent) light bulbs. Can it be used in lamp with 75 watt max bulb?
I'm confused if this bulb is technically 72 watt or 90 watt.

Watts equals heat, 1 watt = 3.4 btu's per hour.
If the lamp is rated for 75 watts then it is good for 256 btu's per hour.
If you use a 72 watt then it puts out 245 btu's per hour.
Light is really just a byproduct.

It's a 72 watt bulb because that's how much power it uses. It apparently gives as much light as some 90 watt bulbs. How much wattage it uses matters because the watts it uses determine how much heat it can produce while in use. Using a bulb of too high a wattage can damage some lamps; that is why some lamps have a maximum of watts allowed for bulbs used in them.

possibly you need to not have used the a hundred watt bulb. maximum lamps/lighting fixtures furnishings require 60 watts! If I have been you, i could examine to work out if there is something on that fixture that tells what wattage to apply. to respond to your question, seventy 5 is decrease than a hundred, so i'm particular you need to use a decrease wattage.

Yes. When dealing with "Max wattage" ratings on light fixtures, you need to look at the actual wattage of the bulb (72 watts in your instance).

72 watts is the amount of power it consumes. 90 watts is the power that would be consumed by an incandescent bulb producing the same amount of light.
