Why are people from Wisconsin and Minnesota so rude?

I work for a medical call center that conducts surveys and need to call Massachusetts, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Virginia. Of the four place Minnesota and Wisconsin patients are way ruder than the rest, followed by Michigan. Virginia and Mass. are quite nice. I notice that in particular people from Wisconsin have no manners and curse a lot and act as if though they don't want to be bothered and have somewhere else to be. I mean, come on you live in small town Wisconsin, what else is there to do? Gimme a break. People from Minnesota are also quite vicious. I am very disappointed as I thought midwesterners were the nicest folk around. I lived in NYC for 10 years and thought they were quite rude there but it turns out midwesterners are not any better. Anyone have any feedback? Is it the cold weather, the obesity, the racism, or the blue-collar mentality? Thanks.

Have you ever been to Minnesota? The people are incredibly nice.

You are contacting very few of the actual population, while they are probably busy, asking them to do a survey and from their perspective you could be anybody telemarketer etc.

and racism? that's a joke! these are northern states for one, and for two if you've ever been to Minnesota specially Minneapolis you will notice it is an extremely diverse place. MN has the largest Somali population in north America, and the only place I know where you can walk down a single block and have a Hmong, Somali, Mexican, and Arab owned business.. literally on the same block right next to each other! (lake st, mpls.) it is the definition of a melting pot.

and everything else you said was nonsense too, obesity? that's funny Minnesota is like the 4th or 5th healthiest state.

I think you've got your us map upside down.

I could not agree more! I had the misfortune to inherit a home here and I can't wait to sell it and leave. I know many others that feel the same way. WI is FULL of loud mouthed, arrogant, rude obnoxious, uneducated slobs. Customer service doesn't exit. People are bold and brash for all the WRONG reasons. And the stupidity! Oh my God, the stupidity! I have traveled around the world and never in my life have I seen a place so backwards as WI.

I work in a call center for over 20 years, calling all over the country. Yes, Minnesota is rude. Tennessee and Arkansas are the friendliest and nicest, southern hospitality at its best.

Jayst you must have been raised in MN. You have become desensitized. I have been here 5 years. I can handle *******, but in Minnesota, people are mean. It's a different kind of mean, it's kind of like passive aggressive mean. It's very hurtful.

I absolutely agree. I have never met anyone I liked from either state, and that goes for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, too.

Know this is late but I agree with you. Raised in WI and moved to Texas for 10 years came back and noticed the huge difference in politeness. People here are rude make you want to smack the sheet out of them. Next chance I get I am moving back to Texas where there is more jobs, nicer people, cheaper seafood and meat, more places to shop at besides Walmart, better weather, more places to go like the Ocean, and better food.
