Parents with kid(s) who have Autism or ASD, please shed some light, need answers?

I have an almost 2 1/2 yr old who might be showing some signs of Autism. But his doctors and therapist have left us in limbo.

He doesn't speak quite well, he does babble, and says a few things like "whoa, uh oh" etc... when playing and says them appropriately.

So his therapist believe he has Autism because doesn't say full words and his social interaction isnt quite there yet.

He does fine with large crowds and peers his age, doesn't quite play with them but side by side.

We have seen a developmental specialist who said she "assumes his on the spectrum" because didn't mimic play with her and threw a tantrum at that appointment. But he's 2 what 2 year old likes a doctors appointment.

Also he makes eye contact recognizes his family, points pictures out in a book doesn't do repiptitive play.

My question is, when/how was your child diagnosed with Autism and what werre thier symptoms?

Any info advice is very well appreciated, thanks.

My advice is that you know your child better than any doctor does. If you don't think the things the doctor observed (tantrums) were typical for him then they probably aren't. The other advice is keep organized records of every doctor appointment and his developments, including videos if possible. Also, treat his specific areas that need work, not "autism" in general. If he needs speech therapy, he needs speech therapy regardless of diagnosis.

I have two kids diagnosed with autism. First one was diagnosed at 3 years, the second one at 2 years. First signs with my first child were no eye contact, no smiling or response to people talking to him, no interest in people but interest in objects (circular objects), 8 hour meltdowns over sounds, clothes, food and crowds, no attempt to communicate (no speech, no pointing, no gesturing, etc.). First signs with my second child were stagnation in language and social development, repetitive play, meltdowns over changes in routine, change in scenery, etc, no eye contact, lots of stimming, obsession with clocks and later Thomas the tank engine. Later there were more signs as they aged.

I do not think it is Autism. I think it's a speech delay and a possible social delay. if you get him into speech therapy, and have him spend more time with kids his own age he will outgrow it. Autism one of those that is over diagnosed.
