Pagans/Wiccans and witches: What to do if a neighbors cat comes up missing and YOU are the only witch in town?

I just moved to a very small town in Texas. The neighbor lady came over a week or so after we moved in and asked if we had seen her missing cat. I looked all around the property including our laundry-room which is in a shed out back of the house. that was over a week ago and it just hit me... I am a Wiccan/witch what if she suspects me? Now I do not go around town waring a huge pentacle or a black robe with a pointed hat and have not told anyone that I am a witch but neither have I purposely kept if a secret. I have a small fairy medallion with a pentagram on it which I ware from time to time. And of course my name is all over the internet. Any advice on what I can do if this is the case, (that she thinks I did something to her cat. Because I am a witch?)

Update:

Thanks for the advice thus far. I am allergic to cats but love animals and have a small winner-mix dog. She has not said anything about this other than asking me if I had seen her cat. I was just worried as we live in a very religiously conservative area. (CHRISTIAN) and this is still a sort of "what if" question.

It sounds to me, based on admittedly little evidence, that you may be being a little over-sensative.

I know of nothing real, nor even any stupid folk-stories, which accuse witches of harming or taking cats. Making them familiars? Sure.

That being said, you may be right to be a little cautious in Texas. I live in a rather conservative area in the Northwest, but Texas is a whole different country, almost.

My advice? Be coy about your religion, be as open and as helpful to your neighbors as you feel comfortable with, and wait and see. You never know...you might find aothers in your area who have similar beliefs, but are also moe or less "in the broom closet."

    Blessed Be!

  • Tell her that if she knows anything about Wicca, then she knows that the last thing you would do is to harm an animal. Regardless of who this lady is, she has no right to suspect you of doing something to her cat just because you are Wiccan. You can just tell her that if she starts to get nasty with you about it. The cat will probably turn up anyway but if it doesn't, you don't have to prove to her that you didn't do anything to it. I hope this helps!:)

I live in texas (san antonio) and im a satanist. And people usually tend to think im evil, possessed and do sacrifices and stuff and not just that but i mean im in highschool ._. So it kind of sucks. But even if she does know your a witch she might judge you and think that. Though if she didnt look drawn back by you and scared by you (natrual reaction unfortunaly) then she was probably just worried. And if your religion does come up just explain to her the truth c:

Get a cat. Keep it alive and be nice to it, I mean why would you have a cat if you kill them?

Blame it on the Protestants. The Catholics have been doing it successfully for centuries.
