6 weeks ago I broke my distal femur, 3 weeks ago my doctor told me that the knee split is no longer required?

and in six weeks he wants to see a 90 degree bend, so start bending the knee. ok my questions is do I do passive bends or non passive? can I push it past the point of pain or not , if I do, well it do more damage? How do I get the swelling to go down? its been six weeks and I have about 40 to 45 degrees of a bend. its very frustrating when no returns call or emails to answer my question. thank in advance for an advice
