I would be interested to hear your opinions on the below?

Smart little girl..

An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned

to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike

up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total

stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God,

or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly.

"Okay," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask

you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same

stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns

out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"

The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence,

thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which

the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss

God, Heaven and Hell, or life after death, when you don't know ****?"

And then she went back to reading her book.

This is probably familiar to some, but I think there is a lot to be said for what the story has to say. I would be interested to see what your thoughts are concerning this and some of the opinions and beliefs we all have and our responses when we are challenged in any way.

Update:

Okay - First of all whether the story happened or not doesn't really matter.

Second the fact it is an atheist in the story is not relevant, it is more about how we choose to form opinions about things without any thought as to how we really form those opinions.

@nostrils - Read from the word 'Second' onwards that should summarise my point in not too detailed a way.

    Funny.

Be to be honest - if everyone felt as comfortable giving their opinion on other topics as they do on Theology - we'd be a nation in trouble.

Can you imagine people arguing with their neurosurgeon about brain chemistry, the way people without any real Theological training try to dispute the Scriptures and matters of faith? Disaster.

This story could apply to about 1/3 the people in R&S I think.

MANY atheists ask questions, or state answers based on a pretty clear lack of knowledge about what religion (and Christianity) is all about. To be fair, many religious people are not much different.

Some of the most obvious examples are questions like "Why do you Christians do what your invisible sky daddy tells you what to do?" Or words to that effect. The fact is, Christians do not have a concept of God as being an invisible sky daddy, so the question is, at best, moot. There are many examples of this sort of thing.

Some people are hear seeking genuine knowledge, or clarification. And, there are some pretty clever people in here with great answers. But, there are more ignorant people than knowledgeable ones unfortunately. And, they are not only ignorant, they have no idea that they even are ignorant. A favourite of mine is the atheists who assume they have logic and reason on their side. Meanwhile, at the seminary I went to, logic and reason were considered so vital to the study of Theology, that we had to take special courses in it. For my program, 10% of the courses, and for a similar program, and entire degree in Philosophy!

    A very false situation.

What happens if you make the adult a Christian? Why does it make any difference?

What if the atheist knows the answer to the girl's question? Does that prove that there is no God.

Once again we see a contrived, trite story that has been made up to make people feel good about their delusion. And they will read it, take it at totally face value and feel good about their beliefs. But if they actually thought about it they would see it for the meaningless tripe that it is.

i don't have faith a be responsive to it. Who receives to be sure the destiny of the international? in easy terms God can, by utilising no potential a team of Mayans!> all of us is like "oh the Mayans are on no account incorrect, they have on no account made a mistake so as that they would be top back!" properly no individual can on no account make a mistake. So if the Mayans have been top so some distance, they are certain to make a screw up. On that day all of us will awaken in the morning and be like "Whoa, each little thing's nevertheless a similar! i've got faith dumb now..." lol how lots money do you opt to wager that there is going to be a TON of those questions whilst the time is close to? like each and all the questions approximately swine flu. i won't be able to wait till December 2012. Y!A would be humorous

It's the opinion that we just have no way of knowing about God, heaven or hell. In a sense that is true unless there is revelation given to us, and that is what has happened in different ways. For example, some people have been given real visions of heaven and/or hell or experienced one of them in near death experiences. These three videos show examples. Funny.

If that were real people, the little girl would never even have an idea he was atheist.

But a godist would have been all over her, she is a kid.

Smarter than the Christian though, she will be OK there too.

I'm not an atheist, I'm an agnostic, but the joke could equally have been about an agnostic. Pesonally, I thought it was hilarious, if rather unbelievable - but then a good joke doesn't have to be believable, does it ?

The roles could have been reversed much more easily. In my experience, it is theists who tend to proselytize, rather than atheists.

It is true that the majority of people who believe anything believe it because of someone else and not because they have any true knowledge them self on the subject.

You don't have to know everything about animals in order to recognize there's no evidence for any god, champ. Nice try though.
