Do I need to strip my hair of SEMI PERMANENT dye before applying PERMANENT color?

I bleached my hair then used semi-permanent blue dye. It's fading and I HATE it. I found PERMANENT blue hair dye (from another country) online. It should be here in a couple weeks. My question is, do I need to strip my hair of the semi-permanent dye before using the permanent dye? Or will the permanent dye attach enough on top of everything? I'm worried that the perm. dye will wash out or become ineffective if it's put over the semi-permanent dye as opposed to bleached hair. I hope that makes sense.. basically, for the best results for the permanent dye, should I just strip the semi-permanent color I already have in my hair out before using the permanent dye? Or will it not matter?

I feel like you'll actually be better off putting the new blue on top of the old blue, actually. Overly processed bleached hair becomes porous over time, and holds color less as it's bleached more.

If you put permanent dye on top of semi-permanent, it will come off. How I know this, my sister had semi-permanent red dye in her hair and she had a professional apply permanent dye to her hair, it was about the same color, after about two weeks it totally faded, and my sisters hair was orange for about two and a half months. So your hair could end up a lighter shade of blue since once the semi-permanent part comes out/ taking a bit, the permanent will eventually have to go in place of that dye that came out, making the permanent fade a little. So my suggestion, just take the semi-permanent dye out so the permanent one can take up all the space needed dyed, and not having you to worry it will fade.

I would avoid re-bleaching, as someone else had already said, once hair has been bleached too much, it will just be dry and not soak up anything else.

If you want the old blue off, try using Color Oops to get it out. Or wash your hair twice a day. Be sure to condition it!
