How Can So Many Folks In Space & Astronomy Claim The Rodent On Mars Is A Rock?

Good Grief People!Take a close look at it.An eye two legs and a tail are clearly visible.Unless this picture has somehow been altered or faked that's an animal there. Why are people in denial on this subject?

I totally believe that there is life out there, that aside, I have a slightly differing theory to propose. Just assume for a minute that this is indeed a "rat". It may be that this was a huge mistake and that this picture was NEVER taken on Mars, but instead, is a hoax perhaps taken somewhere out in the middle of death valley etc. For those that wish to claim that this is not a rat, is to deny your own eyes. The fact is that it is definitely a rat... no person is able to tell me what I see or don't. Big brother would love for you to believe that this was merely a rock... they have been trying for almost a century to tell you what to see and what you need to believe, jump off that train now and see reality for what it truly is... something that can be manipulated.

("How Can So Many Folks In Space & Astronomy Claim Th Rodent On Mars Is A Rock? ...")

    ---------------------------------------------

I'm not a physicist, astronomer, or cosmologist but here's what I know:

The Mars Rat, is two rocks.

I know this from careful examination of the available photos presented from several different sources. If you take a regular 3x hands lens and examine the object while titling the lens slightly against your monitor screen, you can clearly see where the larger rock (the body) separates from the smaller one (the head). There is a gap of at least one inch between the two rocks. The feet of the supposed rat are incompletely formed, and its ears are made up of mostly background light and dark shades of light from material behind the object. If you examine the smaller rock with the same method, you can make the face image project in a different direction, and from that perspective it easy to see that the object is just a rock.

Personally, the larger rock is a lot more interesting. It appear to be solid and relatively smooth about half way back and then there are these perfectly symmetrical segments making up the other half of the rock. At the very end of these segments is a symmetrical geometric figure that caps the tail off. It almost looks worm or insect like. I don't know what to make of that particular image. There doesn't seem to be any other rocks around in that area like that.

Though I won't rule out the idea that the picture (especially the one on the Fox website) has definitely been enhanced.

We are predators we are biologically programmed to recognise animals that could be prey or rival predators it's what we're evolved to do so that we can avoid getting eaten and to find food. Artists and magicians have been taking advantage of this to create illusions for as long as there has been art and magic.

The trick is to be aware of this phenomenon. If you zoom in on the picture and block out the face (which is what our brain is programmed to recognise) and notice the body looks just like an ordinary rock,in fact you can see it has a jagged edge and a flat surface, if you focus on the "face" especially the eye, then you see a face. If you look closely though the front paw is actually missing, the leg is there but terminates abruptly but if you stare at the face long enough your brain fills in the gaps and the front paw "appears", also the flat surface you saw when you covered up the face looks rounded and the very obviously jagged edges smooth out, the thing even grows a tail.

That should tell you it's an optical illusion based on the way our brain processes images. The phenomenon is called Pareidolia and is responsible for the face on the moon to the image of Jesus on crackers.

Honestly though do you really think an Earth mammal will be scurrying around on Mars? The air is extremely thin and toxic and there is no water - it wouldn't stand a chance.

  • A rat on Mars? What would it eat or drink? What would it breathe? Mars has lots of rocks, and it's not inconceivable that one just happens to look a little like a rat. That's certainly a much more reasonable conclusion than assuming it's an actual rat.

I had to look up what you're talking about. It's a new one to me:

It does look like a mouse, but it also looks like a rock. It's a trick of light and shadow, just like with the "bigfoot on Mars" photo. You see what appears to be a foot, an eye, and an ear, all in the right place. It's not impossible for random chance to create that illusion.

OMG. It's an out-of-focus photo of a few rocks! Remember the "Mars Face" from a few decades ago? Once we got a higher resolution photo with a different direction of light source, the face became just another rock.

You probably don't remember "The Old Man of the Mountain" on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The more rational among us could equally ask why you are so vehement that it is some sort of animal. I am surprised you are urging people to take a closer look at it, because the more I look at it, the more I despair of large parts of humanity having any sort of critical faculty at all. If you really want to promote it for reasons of your own I suggest you avoid urging people to look too closely, it will only make you look stupid.

it is definetly a rock but it would be awesome if it was a rat because it would some different species meaning the first time ever have we seen an alien species to be honest it looks more like a lizard than a rat

One could explain all the reasons why a rat could not be present on Mars.

In the meantime, why don't you read up on pareidolia.

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the truth." -- Arthur Conan Doyle

A rat on Mars is impossible: no oxygen, no food. Therefore it must be a rock.

All I see in that picture is a rock thats been heavily affected by erosion.
