Don't put water in your nose. Turn the water up really hot and the steam will help clear it.

It's not necessarily bad for you as far as I know. I've accidentally breathed in water through my nose numerous times before and the only thing that happened was that it felt bad. Just turn the water to a higher temperature, the steam should do something.

Actually, there is something called a neti pot (I got mine at Whole Foods). It looks like a small water kettle, and it is designed to flush your nose and sinuses. But don't use tap water, the minerals can hurt the sensitive tissue in your nose.
