Dog's Teeth Cleaning Estimate and Cost?

That is outrageously expensive. It should not cost anywhere near that. When I have dental's done on my dogs, with the bloodwork, the anesthesia, the surgery and everything else involved in the surgery, my vet only charges me $200. I would take your dog to a different vet, one that is not trying to rip you off. That price you quoted is an insane price to charge for a dental even if there are teeth removed.

Depends on the vets in your area. The last time my dog got his teeth cleaned, it cost about $500. That's including anesthesia, the dental, and antibiotics at the end. (It was $700+ at other places.) I would NOT recommend doing the anesthesia-free cleaning. Doing this does not ensure proper cleaning of the teeth, and if your dog needs teeth pulled, they cannot do it, and will refer you to a vet anyways...that is..if they realize that the tooth needs to come out. Cons- As with any anesthetic procedure, there's always that risk of reacting badly to the anesthesia, though this rarely happens. Call around and get estimates from vets. Make sure that the estimate includes the anesthesia, dental, and everything else that the vet may do. Sometimes the receptionist will simply say that the dental cost $140, and won't include the other costs. So when you go in, expecting to pay $140, you end up paying much more. How often? It's recommended to get it done once a year. In between, you can brush the dog's teeth, provide special chews to help get rid of tartar....

Good googly moogly! No, it shouldn't be that much. Geez. I suggest you shop around. It wouldn't be that much for my 90lb dog. Wow. Even with pre-op bloodwork, it shouldn't be that much. Maybe half that much and I mean for my big beast. No way. I had my boys teeth cleaned with a mobile vet because it is at a discount because of no overhead of a clinic. It was $125. Included everything you have up there except bloodwork. That was $60. At my normal vet, it would be about $300-$350 with bloodwork and everything else. That is ridiculous.

@Annette, I live in Georgia. That is seriously high. My dog is almost 6 years old and had some serious staining on his teeth. I adopted him from a shelter almost 2 years ago and he had never had his teeth cleaned and no matter what I did, the stains were there. Took them a long time to get them cleaned and it still only cost $125. Again though, that was a mobile vet. My vet was double that, but still half the price of the questionnaires...

ADD: my dog was fasted. There was pre op bloodwork, two weeks ahead of procedure. I can't remember all the medications given, but there was a pre-sedation to calm him(he has terrible separation anxiety and it didn't even phase him), then there was injection of some sedation meds and then gas and a shot of antibiotics, inflammatory meds and pain meds. I didn't take any home. It was all given there and as a shot. They didn't trim his nails because I do that at home and he had just had them grinded, but yes they do that.

That sounds about right and the older the dog too, the more it can cost because they have to be given more fluids. My beagle a few yrs ago cost around 7hundred and something. Fox I would like to know where you went, so I can take my dog there too.
