Is God's name JHWH or Elohim?

Why aren't they more commonly referred to than 'God'?

We see a progressive unfolding of the name/nature of God, in the scriptures.

In the beginning of Genesis He is simply Elohim and Jehovah Elohim. It is a generic understanding of God. It means "he who exists". Not very telling, is it?

    Ex 6:2 - 3

And God [elohim] spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD (YHWH/Yahweh/Jehovah): And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty [El Shaddai], but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

The scriptures use Jehovah in relation to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but obviously they did not have a revelation of the Jehovah (Fathering) nature of God. Those three knew El Shaddai [the mothering] nature of God. EL means god; SHADDAI means the female breasted warrior!

When you read of the scoundrels these guys were and how God never took them to task for it, you begin to see that it was like a mother saying to her son Johnny, who just broke the window with the baseball, that it was all right, not to worry about it! But when Moses shows up with a higher revelation of the nature of God, YHWH/Yahweh - father! Moses says, yes ok, Johnny, you broke the window but now you're going to have pay for it! The Father brings the Law!

In the first order of creation, in the world that then was, there was a son of Noah (Shem) who ended up coming out of a boat into the world that now is. He outlived Abraham. He outlived Isaac. And, he died in the year that Jacob was 65 years old! The book of Jasher, mentioned in the Bible, tells us that Shem was Melchizedek and that he was a priest of El Elyon; God, the most high, God!

He had a higher revelation of God than Abraham, Isaac, Jacob or Moses! But don't forget, he come from before the flood and his father was contemporaries with Adam, who was privy to the secrets of the Garden of Eden! That was how he knew God; a higher revelation of God was in the Earth until the tower of Babel, where God confused their single understanding (speech) of who He was.

Shem inherited the whole earth and was the federal head of the human race; he was both a priest and a king. The order of priests to which he belonged died out before the flood and finally ended with him. Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek the greater! He was greater not only in the natural, but spiritually because he had a higher revelation of the nature of God than Abraham did!

Finally, the highest revelation of God's nature is revealed through and as 'Jesus Christ The Lord'. When Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of an endless life, he was made a priest forever, after the Melchizedek order of priests to which Shem belonged! Now, through Jesus, we too, are made one with Jesus' highest revelatory nature and are being made priests of the Melchizedek order!

The Secret to understanding the MelchiZEDEK is to study ZADOK, the priest during David's lifetime.

So, from the beginning to the end of the scripture, it is a progressive unveiling of the name/nature of God.

Elohim אֱלֹהִים is God in Hebrew. It generally means God. YHVH יהוה is God's unique name. To distinguish him from the other gods. There is one true God, and many false gods.

Each name given to God is different characteristics of God. You can't summarize God in one word.
