Need help this is serious for me?

I would like to just start up my car and go. But no I get lost very often im not sure why this happens do I need to read maps more although I never see anyone reading maps they just start up and go they just know where there going. Should I go on an adventure and just get lost and try to find my way back. I have problems with going to more than one place like the mall and then going across town to the zoo. If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

Do not just go out and get lost. That won't help you learn your city and you may have trouble getting back home.

Buy a current road map of your city. Study it for the best routes to the places you usually go. Use a highlighter marker and trace over these routes. Take notice of the turns you will have to make and the road names along the way. You can even write these out on a slip of paper so you don't have to refer to the map while you are driving (dangerous). Once you drive each of these routes several times, it will become familiar to you and you won't need these aids any longer. But you will need to do this for each new destination that you need to learn. Eventually you will become familiar with most of your whole city, but it happens step by step. You should keep one of these maps in your car so you can plan new routes while you are out (but not while actually driving), like from the mall to the zoo, or so you can get home if you get lost.

Other aids you could use include Mapquest.com or a portable GPS or smartphone GPS app, but you will learn your city better if you use the first method I described. The portable GPS is very efficient if you just want to get somewhere and don't care to learn it, like when you are visiting a strange city.

Source(s): I have lived in numerous cities and have learned to drive around each.

Everyone is quite capable of going from one place to another regularly, like home to office and back. Things change with different itineraries that are unfamiliar to the driver. So find out the shortest/fastest way to the mall (or wherever you go regularly) and make the round trip along the SAME roads. Repeat for a week. Try to note reference points along the way that can help you stay on that route (a shop, a diner, a service station). If they are, say on the right-hand side, you will find them on the opposite side on your way back.

Get a map of the area and find the your route on it. Learn how to use the map, it's easy.

Expand gradually your range. While driving, don't get distracted by passengers or music.

Finally, get a sat nav to help you find your way on complicated routes.
