Is being sleepy after meals normal w diabetes?

I was diagnosed w/type 2 diabetes a year ago and have been on meds & diet changes, so I am doing fine,.. but, I always get really sleepy about 20-30 minutes after I eat. Is that normal? I will check w/my doctor but until I reach him... just curious

Being sleepy after meals is normal for just about everybody.

it has NOTHING to do with your diabetes.

However, by having Type 2 Diabetes, we can asume that you are carrying more weight than you should be. THIS can lead to Sleep Apnea, which causes an ABNORMAL tendency to fall asleep in the day time, ESPECIALLY after meals.

If you are more than 75 pounds overweight, you should ask your doctor to refer you to a Sleep Study Center or some other location that treats Sleep Apnea.

It is natural. After meals you get sleepy. Whenever I eat my lunch I fall asleep after 30 minutes or one hour because my stomach is full of food so my body becomes kind of lazy. Also, people eat more during their lunch and normally have a light dinner so they do not fall sleep right away at night. It has got nothing to do with being diabetes and all that.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/0M425

    Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

    Increased thirst

    Increased urination

Weight loss in spite of increased appetite

    Fatigue

    Nausea

    Vomiting

Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

    Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

    Increased thirst

    Increased urination

    Increased appetite

    Fatigue

    Blurred vision

    Slow-healing infections

    Impotence in men

If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

keeping in mind that I'm not an MD. and you'll likely not find one here, several things come to mind. Even though you've mentioned no other symptoms, diabetes can hit suddenly...or hypoglycemia...wouldn't hurt to have blood sugar level checked. I would also think checking thyroid function might be in order as well. Those are a few common things but your doctor will likely have some other ideas. Really it could be anything from sleep apnea to cancer to congestive heart failure. See why you need a doctor...it could be minor...it could be major but no one here could tell you?
