Body modifications in the workplace?

I'm doing a speech on this and I'd like to hear from anyone who has been denied a certain job because of their tattoos even though you had the ability to perform the job or even had the education for it.

If so, did they specifically say that it was the tattoos/piercings, or did they come up with an off the wall reason?

A lot of places claim to be "Equal Opportunity Employers," when in reality they're not.

Different cultures can play a roll too because some people have modifications specifically because of their culture or religion.

So let me hear your stories or situations, people!

I'd love to incorporate it into my speech.

Update:

This is an INFORMATIVE speech. To inform on a subject that you think matters, or people never really think about. A lot of people dont think about this. I dont care about your scarf, this is a COMPLETELY different matter that I'm addressing to the class.

When I picked up a job application, my employer was kind, and when dropped it off, she really seemed to want to hire me because of my previous work experience and good references. However, my first day on the job my boss asked about the tattoos on my arms, and flat out said she would not have hired me if she knew I had tattoos. (i wore long sleeves when I picked up and dropped off my application)

She didnt fire me, she just kind of made a point about it. She probably knew I wouldve reported her after she said that i she fired me. My co workers didnt really care about my tattoos. I also have a lip piercing, but I just dont wear it to work.

I once declined to hire a woman who had a tongue piercing. The role involved being on the phone and unfortunately her tongue piercing made her lisp and the piercing clicked on her teeth and made her difficult to understand. I have nothing against piercings but the fact remained that it hindered her ability to speak clearly. Fot the same reason I declined to hire a guy who had a very strong accent, again his voice was difficult to understand on the phone. The job required talking on the phone to investors, many of whom are elderly and hard of hearing. It is essential that a person in this type of role have a voice that is easy to listen to and understand.

If people make judgements on you anyways, why would you want to give them more reason to. Even if you are a saint people are still going to judge you and you can't do anything about it. They have the upper hand they can not hire you if they don't like your face, you would just never find out.

That's the reality. I know people would judge me based on my religion. I used to wear a scarf and people would expect me to not understand them or speak with an accent when I have no accent at all and I am American.

I live in Utah and I've got to say I face aversion because of my ear gauges. I found a job I loved taking care of disabled people. I landed this job only because I had a friend. I literally filled out 40 applications and never got a single call.
