  • Trip and fall injury -Sydney Aust?

I'm currently in hospital as a result of a trip and fall on a broken footpath. I have a black eye, a badly sprained left ankle and multiple fractures to my right foot. I was scheduled for surgery but swelling and a likely poorer outcome for mobility means that surgery is to be delayed or hopefully avoided. I'd opt for a longer recovery time rather than surgical invention if that causes more problems. Due to the severity of my injuries and the fact that my right foot is now permanently "stuffed up" I am going to speak to a lawyer about making a claim. My $500 sunglasses were crushed and I need a wheelchair hire for 2 months (can't use crutches as both feet are non functioning). I'm an at home mum but it's going to be a nightmare trying to run a household and kids from a wheelchair. Anyhow, how does it work with a lawyer? How much do they cost? I realize that in the US people might get a million dollars but here in Sydney is wanting a few thousand to offset costs and pain ok? Anyone had a bad fall and sued their council? The footpath was seriously in bad repair and not one I usually use hence being caught out and trip. I tripped over a jutting up piece and rolled my ankle but as I tried to regain my balance I fell into a hole (missing part of footpath) and then fell face first into the road. Not happy.

  • So sad, my sister has stage 3 breast cancer?

My sister has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, stage 3, T3 no mets. Hers is a rare occult type, no identifiable tumor in the breast but 3 lymph nodes removed, all cancerous, over 10cm mass. She has lost the plot. She is saying she won't have any treatment because what's the point, she's going to die anyway. She lives overseas, far from me. I want to go to her, but we've never been close I guess, and she says "don't come, I don't want you here". I want to go and drag her if necessary to treatment. I said I'll shave off all my hair too so she doesn't feel so bad. What should I do? Respect her right to not have treatment, listen to her saying "no, I don't want you here" or go anyway and try and make her see reason (if I can). I think even if she had a 1% chance of living 5 years or more, she should have everything and do everything she can. She has a 9 year old and a 3 year old. Her husband is useless, he's depressed and won't get out of bed. I want to kick him up the ar**. Maybe that's why she doesn't want me over. Her marriage was pretty much stuffed before this, but he won't let her come home (Australia) with the kids. They have to stay in France. What a mess, what an awful situation. I feel so powerless. I feel like "kidnapping" her and the kids and bringing them home so I can look after them all. I'd go to jail if I had to, I'd do that for the sake of her and her kids even though we aren't close. Sigh.

  • Which cancer has better prognosis?

My sister, aged 46, has two very large lumps under her arm. She has had a negative mammogram done. One of the lymph nodes is around 15cms in size. Ultrasound has shown venous flow, a more round shape and defined edges. She is awaiting further tests - biopsy, CT scan, PET scan. All in all it doesn't sound good. As a non medical person but with "google" i have guessed that it might be occult breast cancer (which gets staged to 3 by lymph node involvement) or Non Hodgkins Lymphona. Neither is good. Her otherwise health is good, no other health issues at all. Could the cancer specialists out there in Yahoo Answer land give me an opinion on what cancer has the better prognosis? She has 2 kids, one is 9 the other 3. She thinks she will be dead in under 5 years. Statistically I think she has around a 60% chance of making 5 years. Any thoughts? Obviously nothing s known until we get all the test results but the chances of it being benign seem slim to none. Tragic.

  • Do you have what it takes to be "Awesome"?

In Sydney, four young guys traveling on a bus watched in horror as a woman in a car, out of control, crashed down an embankment and went into a lake. They yelled at the bus driver to stop, they lept out ran down to the lake and dived in. The car was sinking fast as they swam out to her. She was confused and disorientated and they had to force the windows open to drag her out and swim her to safety. The woman was uninjured. They have been hailed as heroes. The woman's husband called them awesome. Could you act so quickly and selflessly? Could you be Awesome?

  • Why is Yahoo answers showing questions "decades" old?

I noticed that yahoo answers questions are showing their age as "four decades" ago! Is this a Halloween prank or is my eyesight a lot worse than I thought or am I just going mad?

  • Melanoma - multiple brain mets- prognosis?

Hi, a dear friend sadly has had a re occurrence of a melonama. She has multiple mets to her brain and is currently having whole brain radiotherapy. We knew about the lung and spine mets but her previous therapy had reduced their size and she seemed to be going along ok until she had a fit and collapsed while out shopping. That's when they found it in her brain. My question is, and I know there are no crystal balls, but is she likely to make it to Christmas? My understanding from what I've read is that at this stage it is terminal. She is pretty much in denial about her condition, which I think is her way of coping.

  • Going to Orlando, what parks to visit?

Hi, I'm visiting Orlando with my daughter in June. We are going to visit the theme parks on 2 days. We are doing Harry Potter and Sea World separately. With the two days, I see you can get tickets that include the water parks. My plan was to get that ticket so we could do a theme park then a water park on each day.Or is it better to get a "visit as many as you want on the day" ticket, which is more expensive? I appreciate it will be busy, but how busy? How long do you normally stand in a queue for a ride? Are they all scary roller coaster rides? My daughter is 10, neither of us likes scary roller coasters though it seems most Americans love them! Any other tips much appreciated.

  • How does tipping work?

Hi, I'm travelling to Orlando for a holiday. I'm Australian. We don't tip here in Australia! So who exactly am I expected to tip and how much? Do I tip the taxi driver? Do I tip a waitress at a restaurant? How don't I tip? Sorry to have to ask, I just don't want to offend anybody by not doing what's expected. Many thanks.

  • What to do about my neighbor?

This morning after dropping my daughter at school I found the cat from across the road lying dead on the road. I went inside and got a towel so I could pick it up and take it to them. They weren't home as they were out dropping their daughter to her school. I waited out the front so I could tell them what had happened (I knew they'd be home soon). As I waited on the footpath, their next door neighbor (who I know has had an ongoing feud with the people who own the cat) came out and said

"ha, ha, was it their cat squashed on the road?if I had a car I would have run it over a few more times just to make sure, ha ha, I'm glad, I wish them all dead" I was so shocked I couldn't respond. The cat belongs to the little girl who is 12, it was her Christmas present.

I never want to speak to or acknowledge that horrible, bitter, nasty man again.

What is wrong with some people! Oh, and the feud is about the older kids who when they visit, have the "nerve" to park on the road outside his house. It is a public road so anyone can park there but he is just weird, he thinks he owns the footpath and the road outside his house!

    Am I overreacting?

  • How much is a 3 bedroom house in your area ?

Hi, just curious, I live in Croydon, NSW Australia and to buy a nice (not even new) 3 bedroom house with a backyard, a garage, a bathroom and decent lounge/dining area costs more than $800,000.

If I want an ensuite, and a big yard and air con and new, it would be over $1,000,000 easy.

    How much where you live?

  • Stray male cat in garden, Sydney?

    Hi, advice please.

I have found a stray male undesexed cat living in our garden. This is quite strange considering we have 2 pet greyhounds, one of which isn't cat friendly.

We have tried shooing the cat away, I'm worried the dogs might injure him, but he won't go!

I figure he must be pretty desperate to take up residence in a yard with 2 large dogs!

I'm in Sydney, inner west, does anyone know of a rescue group who could take him? At the very least he needs desexing or he is just adding to the cat population problem.

He is a dark grey tortishell with piercing green eyes, a bit fluffy. He is friendly enough. He has obviously been eating the dogs leftover kibble.

Any advice please, I'm not ringing the pound, he would be put down in like 2 days!

    Many thanks

  • Male dog peeing on top of females pee?

Hi, we just started fostering a female greyhound. We have already a male greyhound. Both dogs are de sexed and around 4 years. Every time the female dog does a pee, our male dog goes over and pees on the same spot she did. I'm just wondering why he does that? They are getting on fine and she doesn't ever pee over the top of where he has!

    Thanks

  • Will my dog ever want to go walks again?

Hi, the story is that our rescue dog, a greyhound, has been attacked twice by "roaming" dogs while we were out walking. The first attack was very serious, the second time he got away from me and ran.

Since then it has been almost impossible to get him to leave the yard.

We have him on stress medication and have had a behaviorist vet visit and provide advice and a program to get his confidence back.

It has been weeks now, we have made some slow progress but it's disheartening. He will only go walking like in a pack, with 2 or 3 people, but not with just 1.

We are even getting another foster dog for to help him feel safer which out walking.

He is almost 5, a rescue ex racing greyhound.

Does anyone have any similar experience with their dog? What did you do? What helped your dog? How long did it tacked?

He used to love his walks sooo much and now he just wants to stay at home.

    Any proper advice gladly received.

    Thanks

  • My dog has become timid after 2 dog attacks and doesn't want to go walks anymore?

We have been attacked twice now by "roaming" dogs, the first attack he was dragged to the ground and had 14 lots of stitches as a result. The 2nd time a dog charged at us and he panicked and pulled off the leash and ran 1km home by himself. Now it is really really difficult to get him out for a walk. He is very nervous of any dog or sudden noise and just wants to go home/ be at home. I don't blame him! What might help him- medication or therapy - I'm serious here- I want him to enjoy going for a walk again and not be terrified of other dogs. He is a huge greyhound, desexed, an ex racing dog. He has a very placid quiet temperament. In neither attack did he show any sign of aggression or even defensive behavior - he just wants to run away and did on both occasions. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Is telling lies to the police bad?

The man next door was beating a trapped fruit bat to death with a lump of wood. The bat was screaming in pain. It was horrific. I called the RSPCA to report it and the police also came.

The man denied to both the RSPCA and the police that he even knew the bat was trapped in his fruit tree, I know what I saw and heard and was shocked that he outright lied to the police. So it's his word against mine of course.

It appears the bat wasn't injured, thank God, but obviously that may not be the case when the bat is properly examined.

I'm no huge fan of fruit bats, but to hear it's awful cries in pain and fear was horrible.

Is he going to be in trouble if it turns out the bat was injured and he lied?

  • Friendly email, then silence?

20 years ago I loved this guy and as he lived and worked overseas I couldn't be there with him. We wrote /visited for 5 or so years. It just became too hard and lonely for me as it seemed we would never be together, so I broke off contact.

I recently found some photos of his, work related, and managed to find a contact for him. I know that he is married with a child as am I. He straight away responded to my email and sounded pleased to hear from me and said he was looking forward to receiving my news.

I sent him off a chatty email, no mention of the past of course, and heard nothing more?

I am wondering if he didn't actually recognize my name and maybe thought I was some other woman? Maybe he still isn't sure who i am or maybe he doesn't have anything to say to me once he realised who i was?I wasn't expecting much in the way of a reply, maybe a bit of news about

himself as well as an answer to the question "do you want the photos back?" I think I should just throw out the photos.

  • Have I do the right thing befriending an elderly person?

I met an old man while walking my dog and got talking. Because he was old and living alone since his wife died, I have been dropping by to see him for a chat and a cup of tea. This has been going on a while. I have by now found out he has no living relatives anywhere and is considerably wealthy. He recently asked for my full name and address. I am worried that he is going to put me in his will as he sort of considers me the daughter he never had (his words not mine). I am just a nice person who felt sorry for this lonely old man, who is a lovely person. I don't want his money. Do I have to take money if it is left to me? Or should I stop being his friend?
