Why d Christians believe Jesus is coming back if he never existed?
Most of the evidence suggests that was a patchwork of old pagan folktales to create another passive Super Hero for their time, rather than an actual person. Why would people think that someone who never existed to begin with is mystically going to reappear one day, thousands of years after the comics were made?

History 108 3/4
Mostly all people doubt the Holy Word of God, The Bible.
But This little History lesson will enlighten all.
It starts with the Hittites. And a lack of evidence they ever existed. Then in 1908 a Archaeological discovery was made by John Garstang. The 400 year civilization of the Hittites Empire (1600-1200 BC). Since then so much has been discovered about the Hittite Empire, you can study all you want about them.
And it’s not just The Hittite evidence. All kinds off engraved stones or cylinders from other ancient civilizations verify other Biblical accounts. The Taylor Prism confirms the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem that the Bible describes in 2 Kings 19-19, 2 Chronicles 32, and Isaiah 36-37.
The discovery of the Tel Dan Stele confirms the existence of Israel’s King David. The Cyrus Cylinder records Cyrus of Persia’s decree that allowed Babylonian captives to return to their homes and resume their religious practices. The Moabite Stone proves the events of 2 Kings 3. This stone not only chronicles the rebellion led by Mesha King of Moab but even mentions the name Yahweh.
Jewish and Roman historians referred to the life and works of Jesus. Josephus wrote about Jesus’ miracles. And Pliny the Younger, an ancient ruler, recorded that Christians in his province maintained their belief in and the worship of Jesus even when faced with death. We have evidence that the Gospels were written by apostles or at least in cooperation with them. Irenaeus, a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of the apostle John, Writes: as far as someone inserting into the Bible what they felt like. The Dead Sea Scrolls put that idea to rest. The earliest copies of the New Testament date back to 114 AD.
The Holy Bible 100% accurate.
For those of you who say, There is no God,Jesus, Sky Daddy, Satan, or Christians. Please go to Biblical Archeology And read some of what you find there. It proves that God is 100% Real. And so is His Holy Word The Bible.Just check out the below sites.

There is more joy in Jesus in one day.
Than there is in the World 365/24/7
I know, I tried them both.

Jesus is different from most "super heros" that we may see today in the fact that Christians don't see him as a character in a story. Granted, there is the Bible and the likes which would logically fall under the category of story along with historical document. Christians, you have to realize, believe that he DID exist, despite what you personally believe. In the Bible, it is written that he is the human manifestation of God. It is also written that there will be a second coming and that that coming will be the day on which this world will end and we will all be judged and either damned to hell or brought to heaven. Again, I'm not sayin it's right or it's wrong, I'm just stating a belief system. Whether you believe it or not, I really don't care. They see him as a manifestation of God, not a character of traditional pagan folklore.

Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?
Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!
At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!
Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?
Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead!
Josephus AD 37 – AD 100
Tacitus AD 56 – AD 120
Suetonius - 69 – 130 AD
Pliny the Younger, 61 AD – 112 AD
Justin Martyr (Saint Justin) AD103–165 AD
Lucian - AD 120 -180 AD but he was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it.
Pamphilius AD 240-309 AD
Eusebius AD 263 – 339 AD
Photius AD 877 – 886 AD
Thallus - But there are no actual record of him except a fragment of writing which mentions the sack of Troy [109 BC] Showing that he was clearly not alive in biblical times.
Some even try to use Seneca. 4 BCE – 65 CE but as a Stoic Philosopher he opposed religion yet made not a single mention of a Jesus or Christianity!
Even funnier is trying to claim Celsus AD ? – 177 AD Who said that Jesus was a Jew who’se mother was a poor Jewish girl whose husband, who was a carpenter, drove her away because of her adultery with a Roman soldier named Panthera. She gave birth to an illegitimate child named Jesus. In Egypt, Jesus became learned in sorcery and upon his return presented himself as a god.

There was a man by the name of Simon Greenleaf, a law professor at Harvard and one of the founders of Harvard Law School. He authored a 3-volume work called Treatise on the Law of Evidence. It's still the definitive reference in the classroom and courtroom 160 years after its publication. Greenleaf used this to examine the testimonies of the four Gospel writers and judged them to be truthful and accurate beyond a reasonable doubt. By their own testimony Jesus of Nazareth is God in the flesh, He was crucified, died, was buried and rose again three days later. Greenleaf was an atheist turned evangelist. His findings are detailed in his work: Testimony of the Evangelists which is available online for your study. Considering your eternal destiny hangs in the balance, it would be wise of you to perform your due diligence while you're still able.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD proves Jesus existed. It is a historical account not from the bible. You can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_Rome
It is proof that Jesus was crucified by Pontius Pilate
