How do you feel about the government being able to collect phone call records?

Most Americans are outraged to find that their phone records and Internet activity are being compiled by the National Security Agency. President Obama says they're not looking at people's name or content, but only helps in respect to folks who might engage in terrorism. What do you think about this? Ok? Or not Ok?

I am not going to blow this up into a big topic on politics between who is right, the elephant or the mule, but I wish to answer from the point of view as an American citizen.

I understand why the Patriot Act was put up in the first place, after the consequences of September 11th, it does make sense to track for more terrorist plans and such; whether foreign or domestic; and even though it violates our rights as citizens, but we were all still frightened after the tragedy. However with everyone under the microscope to be observed is scary and it feels like we the people are getting pinched.

I think, for the time being; it was fine, but if they keep this up forever and try to pass through restrictions that violate our rights, then I am really going to have a major problem with this. I personally would like to cease the restrictions set forth by the Patriot Act and allow more freedom back into the citizens hands, but at this time, we are all stuck with what we have.

NOTE: I am also referring to the use of the internet more so because it has become increasingly popular in terms of it's medium in today's world. But this also applies to all of our rights, whether online or offline.

Here's the thing: Obama said we can't have 100% security AND 100% privacy. What people don't realize is that it is impossible to have 100% security. 100% security is an unattainable goal; it can never and will never happen. Has this method of collecting phone call records ever stopped a terrorist attack? No, it has not, and it probably will not. I don't buy the excuse anyway. Getting phone records is just another step in ruining this country, which is what the sheeple's leader intends to do.

I can't help but wonder why he is still the president. Why has he not been impeached? I would suggest that any other president who did things the exact same way Obama has done would have been impeached by now, and I guaran-damn-tee George W. would have been thrown out on his *** as soon as Benghazi happened. Nixon was impeached for far less serious crimes than Obama has committed. Yes, I said crimes. Remember back when the Obama administration was going to be the most transparent administration in U.S. history? He sure trolled us with that, didn't he?

I think most of us would agree that part and parcel of "freedom" is the freedom to read this or explore that online or say this or that in a phone call or elsewhere without being monitored and potentially punished for it. The United States of America. Our founding fathers have supported the rights of the people since the establishment of this country. The constitution is becoming more and more violated in and out through Congress and the Government. Today is a sad day for me and many other Americans, who are now not proud to be called an American. I feel that there is going to be many protests as many groups and organizations take up the arms of words and literature and speak out against this corrupt and most disgusting government and its system that needs to be completely re-evaluated. This is probably one of the most disgusting things that the Obama Administration has ever done to this already beaten up country. I hope that one day, a new government will emerge written by the people and for the people once again. I know many people that are outraged and furious about the evil government violating our privacy. What has happened to this country? It has gone to hell. Obama lies and every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie! The government is collecting our information to use against us in the future. Think about this for a second, I know that the government has been collecting our phone calls and information for a long time. If what Obama said was really true about them collecting it to prevent terrorism.

If you are doing nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about. If you are doing something not so good maybe you just stop doing it.

IDENTITY theft is rampant. There are data mining companies that scour the net looking for bits and pieces about you.

Check into a Vegas Hotel and before you get your room key they have all sorts of information about you.

The government could just hire private business and get almost the same amount of information.

Ever heard of "Cookies" they are all over your computer collecting information for ???

Privacy ended years ago in the high tech world. Your cell phone only works because you can be tracked from place to place. You post a picture on say Face booklet it says WHEN and WHERE the picture was taken your cell phone I pad thingy adds the information to the picture. Someone tags a face in your picture and the whole world sees it. A good private investigator can search all kinds of public records you gladly submit information to.

Should the government be doing it no but then private companies should not be selling your information either to the highest bidder. Ever wonder where those personally addressed sales pitches come from?

I did not ask for my yearbook picture to be put on the net. There was no net when the picture was taken.but some alumnus thought it would be neat to upload all the school years books on some alumni site so students could find each other. Guess what other people look at it too.

Someone else checks your name against the phone book. Someone else checks the names of people with drivers licences. Someone else joins the two together.

On the face of it, this seems a violation of everything we hold dear as Americans, that "everything" being a certain level of freedom. I am not thrilled by the notion that the government might be tracking my phone calls and my Internet usage. I won't pretend that I am.
