Can I use fabric softener sheets when I dry my mother-ease cloth diapers?
The only instructions I see tell me to use little to no fabric softener. Are the dryer sheets the same thing?

Dryer sheets can cause build-up on your diapers which ultimately reduce their absorbency.

Nope, avoid all fabric softeners, they leave a film on diapers and inserts that will repel liquids also most fabric softener sheets when you read the back will tell you not even to use them on infant clothes, because it effects the fire retardants in the clothing.

I haven't used cloth diapers in about 9yrs or so but I remember the instructions said do not use them. From what I understood at the time was the chemicals in the softener were not safe for the diaper itself.

No, not really but you can use a ball of aluminum foil in the dryer for the same effect. Or you can use vinegar in the wash which will soften the diapers as well as remove odors and bacteria.

Try wool balls. Seriously, we have allergies in my family and I found a 6pack of large woolzies for $20 on baby-steals. It says it's great for cloth diapers, but really it's wonderful for us. Aluminum foil can help with static charge, but the woolsies help the clothes dry faster and the clothes are softer than without anything. You can usually find them on ebay though and they don't have to be 'woolzies' just any wool-ball works (though you need like 6-8 for a full load of laundry.)

No. Don't use fabric softener. It stops the absorptive action of the diaper. Ir may also be a problem for your baby's butt.
