How do I make my motorcycle louder?

LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES, my motorcycle is annoyingly quiet, I want to be more noticeable on the road. I had many close calls that I believe could have been avoided by a little noise, but I cant find any pipes that will fit my bike. I have a 1980 Suzuki gs1000 henderson limited custom, it has been modified so stock or aftermarket pipes don't exist for them.

If I knew how I would make a new set. Keeping in mind I don't want to be obnoxiously loud, just a little bit of pop would be nice. Any suggestions?

I actually had a 1979 Suzuki GS1000, it too had a customized exhaust, a 4 into 1, I got the muffler cut off and a piece of pipe with a bracket fitted, it sounded awesome actually, it seems like it would be over the top but it actually wasn't as loud as you would think, if you didn't want it that loud though you could probably get one custom made or find one you like and get it modified to fit, either should be easy enough,

I agree with you 100% loud pipes do save lives, I have ridden loud and quiet bikes and can attest to that, these people who get on here and like to say different are either just jealous or are those type of people who like to complain about everything, after all you know that they say: "Those who find fault with things around them simply because they do not agree are the ones with the problem, not that which they find fault with"

I agree 100%, Loud pipes save lives. If you can't find aftemarket pipes and you don't want to go the custom made pipe route, then the easiest way to make your bike louder is to drill your baffles full of holes. Nothing sounds better than a loud bike. Just my opinion.

All you need is an after-market silencer. The inlet diameter of the silencer has to be roughly 1-3mm bigger then the outer diameter of your link pipe.

By the way, I ride a dual-sport with a non-road legal silencer, it's very loud. Moving on, I still get vehicles pulling out on me almost every day. My bike is also bright green. Nothing will stop some drivers, they dont look or cant be bothered to.

    >"avoided by a little noise"

If only manufacturers added a noise-making device to their bikes, it could be operated by a switch on the handlebars so it only sounds when needed.

It could be called a horn.

    …oh wait…

Since it is modified then, if you still want to make a racket, you are going to have to get some custom-built for you. Don't expect a massive change in the attitude of drivers around you though.

You will still have close calls – and it is your responsibility to avoid them – while another driver might be responsible for an accident it is not going to hurt them nearly as much as you.

Loud pipes dont save lives, Maybe back in the day when drivers didnt have cell phones but in this day and age drivers are texting,or using google or paying attention to the GPS. Having said that ALL of my bikes are loud but its because I enjoy the sound. I dont rap my pipes up at red lights or make lots of noise in neiborhoods. I cut my bike off and glide up to my house or anywhere Im going. You can remove your baffle, cut it in half and get a decent sound. Or drill it out buy a baffle and cut it in half. Or get a set of drag pipes and put a half baffle in and also instal an Anti Reversion cone at the head pipe. Or simply have any muffler shop bend up a set of pipes. Just because its a little louder wont change things drive with your guard up at all times and watch the fools in traffic around you!

You can drill a small hole in the battles, and if it still doesn't sound right for you, go a little bigger with the hole. If that doesn't just go bigger little by little. You may have readjust the carbs, because you changed the exhaust pipe. riding 49 yrs

LOUD pipes KILL bikers as cagers either respond aggressively, or panic.

Turn on your lights, use your horn, wear bright clothes, dress your bike like a police bike, ride defensively.

Otherwise, some stock down pipes are listed here :

and you could always look for slip-overs;-)

Loud pipes do not save lives. They just annoy people. That phrase is just a weak justification for making you an obnoxious motorcycle rider giving a bad name to those of us that don't need to compensate.
