Is there one desire that holds the key to transcending the illusion?

All desires, hopes, and preferences are but ego-driven, holding us captive to an illusion of reality that does not exist. None of these wishes serve awakening to our true and original essence, since they simply reinforce the dream of separation.

Could the desire for peace be the one valid desire within the illusion that opens us to Reality? And if so, why is it valid if other desires are not?

Even though we agreed to go through the tunnel of forgetfulness before returning to this "reality", we still have the innate connectedness to source. It keeps nagging away at us, that longing to return "home:, back to the knowing of us and this energy being we call God as just ONE, even though we often misinterpret the feeling as discomfort, or unfairness, or anger, or even violence against others.

LOVE is the only thing that satisfies us, but we often don't know why. Rejection from LOVE brings out VERY strong feelings . It is the apparent disconnection from Love (which is apparent disconnection from GOD - which is impossible, but it feels like it) that hurts so much.

Does peace exist in nature? Or even the universe? Maybe peace is the illusion?

The choice is whether we desire what we want. Or desire whatever the truth may hold.

How about the desire to see beyond the illusion? There are different kinds of ego drivers.

Sri Ramakrishna used to say it this way; There is the ripe ego and the green ego. The green ego is like the green coconut, the husk of the green coconut cannot be removed from the nut just as the green ego cannot be removed from the being spiritually immature. But when the nut ripens the husk falls off by itself. When a being has gone though all the worldly desires in which they attempt again and again to discover that Joy and Peace and Love that they sense is there but never find in the ever changing world of form, only then do they turn their attention within to discover the essence of their being, Spirit. Only then does the ego give up its usurped power and become servant instead of Master. The ripened ego/mind serves the Spirit instead of compelling it to bondage in the world of ever changing form and circumstance.

Consider this; Science discovers that only three per cent of the Mass of the Universe is material stuff that can be seen and measured and known by way of the senses. The ninety seven per cent that cannot be seen or measured or know via the sense make up the greatest Mass that they are calling Dark Matter. In that lies the profound Truth of the greater Reality of the Universe.

Control issues keep people separate from reality and make it seem divided up. Peace just is really, it just kind of gets misplaced sometimes. Peace is can based, so unlike a lot of stuff it isn't must and can't. Dreams are kind of different from that to me, they are kind of in between and highly flexible, so when something doesn't seem to fit, then it gets flexed through dreams and put back correctly in place. So Reality and reality are one thing.

The way I put it once in terms of how it's experienced under normal circumstances is "positive, unlimited and integrated", but some people call that a fixed delusional belief in a bizarre concept called positive, unlimited and integrated, as if everyone has to experience reality as negative limited and broken up. But in "positive, unlimited and integrated", peace is kind of around the middle of that.

It's valid because it is infinitely shareable and can't do any harm. Anything that's infinitely shareable and therefore no competition over it and no downside is valid. It just happens that peace is the easiest one, and all the others can follow from that.

As I understand it, we cannot leave a place until we accept & love it. That's hard because this world is full of so much darkness, and accepting that darkness is very difficult for those of us who live in the light. The only thing than can transcend the illusion is acceptance of everything as perfect exactly as it is. When we desire, hope, dream for something better, what we are doing is judging our situation as imperfect and that is what keeps us here.

Remember my friend, there is no rush. Earth is a school and we are light creatures here to learn, but learning is not always fun or easy. It's not how long it takes to awaken from the illusion that matters, but rather, that we embrace & love this illusion exactly as it is without trying to change or perfect anything. The hardest pill for humanity to swallow is accepting that life is perfect exactly as it is.

Another excellent question, and you have several thoughtful answers already.

I will answer from a different direction.

"Forgiveness is the one illusion that does not create more illusion."

Since we were Created Perfect, we need nothing. Desire is an ego

tool. Peace is already part of our perfection so we do not need to desire

    peace.

We cling to our beliefs in materiality and block reality from dawning on us.

When we are willing to forgive all of our prior projections and beliefs,

awakening can happen in any instant. Forgive every thing we ever

believed about the worlds of illusion which makes them unreal again.

Selflessness is the only key to transcending the illusion.

Any other desire including desire for peace takes us deeper into illusion.

"Being selfless is in our own selfish interest." in the words of a wise one.

We have to understand the God is perfect, God is complete and everything that comes from God is also perfect and complete. What we lack is a perfect vision. We see this world with the colored filter which of our mind. As is our mind, so is our world. If we can keep our mind silent by working in the world selflessly for the general benefit of mankind, we shall transcend the illusion and we shall see that everything is happening perfectly as per God's plan.

"On this bridge Lorca warns; Life is not a dream. Beware, and beware, and beware"

"an illusion of reality that does not exist"; I disagree with this. Just because there is more out there does not imply that this entire earth and everything that we experience is an illusion or a dream; this experience is very very real.

but anyways...i think the problem is a lack of acceptance. If you are unable to accept the very reality you are living in, and you deem it illusory, how in the heck can you ever accept anything. And is not acceptance the key? People always think the grass is greener; and spiritually rambling we also think there is a "higher" reality that is being hidden from us...we claim to be some victim to circumstance and our current circumstance, for better or worse, is earthly. If we can accept our earth bodies instead of constantly craving some other form of reality which we believe to be closer to truth.

"In the sky there is nobody asleep. Nobody, nobody.

    Nobody is asleep.

The creatures of the moon sniff and prowl about their cabins.

The living iguanas will come and bite the men who do not dream,

and the man who rushes out with his spirit broken will meet on the

    street corner

the unbelievable alligator quiet beneath the tender protest of the

    stars.

Nobody is asleep on earth. Nobody, nobody.

    Nobody is asleep.

In a graveyard far off there is a corpse

who has moaned for three years

    because of a dry countryside on his knee;

and that boy they buried this morning cried so much

it was necessary to call out the dogs to keep him quiet.

Life is not a dream. Careful! Careful! Careful!

We fall down the stairs in order to eat the moist earth

or we climb to the knife edge of the snow with the voices of the dead

    dahlias.

    But forgetfulness does not exist, dreams do not exist;

flesh exists. Kisses tie our mouths

in a thicket of new veins,

and whoever his pain pains will feel that pain forever

and whoever is afraid of death will carry it on his shoulders."

What opens us to non-dual reality is absence of all desires and attachment. Now, what takes there (to the threshold) fastest is perhaps the desire for complete transcendence of everything including peace and nothingness; for in peace there is still a "me" that experiences peace and in nothingness there is no peace to be experienced.

If we desire that means we are still disconnected from our source. It means We are still telling ourselves that what we need is out there and we have to go and get it. False!!!

Have absolutely no desire and going within our self is the key.
