When can I get a refill on my pills?
I have Norco 10/325 prescribed (60 of them) to take one every four hours as needed. I was just curious as to when I can get them refilled. I am NOT a drug seeker. I am going on vacation and would like to make sure I have enough medication. For my previous pain pills, Lorcet 10/650, I could get them refilled every 13/14 days (depending on whether the pharmacist knew me). I assume I can get these filled even earlier? I was given the exact same amount and dosage (just less tylenol, Dr was concerned for my liver).
Edit: Sometimes I have just asked for a refill and paid out of pocket. Again, depending on the pharmacist, sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. My favorite pharmacist is on vacation. The one there now is...an unpleasant person, so I need to know what the earliest is I can get my refill (I ALWAYS pay out of pocket, so that is no issue). I am THINKING maybe 10 days, since Lorcet every 6 hours is only 13 days. You'd think every 4 hours would be earlier, unless this pharmacist is odd.

Any pharmacist really shouldn't be giving refills of any kind unless they have a doctors script ordering it plus they have to follow the time line on that order. This is especially true of a drug like Norco which is often abused and is addictive. People will doctor shop for these types of drugs using various pharmacies to fill multiple orders from different doctors. A drug addict does not care about insurance covering the cost. It's good that you are not a drug seeker but just mentioned it due to the type of drug you need and it might be hard getting it filled if it is not due. When you are close to running out, you can just call your doctors office and let them know where to send the refill Rx. It really doesn't matter if you are far away or not as long as you have the pharmacy phone number to send it to. You could also ask ahead of time for a Rx to take with you to get it filled there somewhere if need be.
I don't know why any pharmacist would refuse to refill your drug if everything is on the up and up with the doctors order. You shouldn't be having any problems as to what type of personality they have or "some will do it while others won't." Personality shouldn't even come into the picture since it has no bearing on what the doctor ordered. They have strict rules they should be following for everyone when it comes to dispensing drugs.

Again ppl ans the ques with no clue as to what the laws R 4 filling narcotic scripts. 1st it depends on what state U R in. But usually Pharmacies R required to track narcotic fills. So if U have a script 4 a 10 day supply and lets say U fill it in the 10th of the month, U R then limited as to when U can refill the next time. So lets say U came in on the 13th to fill 4 another 10 days, the pharmacy is not allowed to fill that script until about the 15th of the month because U still should have meds left. While I know everyone on yahoo will probably give this thumbs down its actually the truth. But thats the thing that gets the lowest voter rating on Yahoo answers.

Considering this is a Narcotic, you would have to be cautious.
Be sure you take the medication bottle with all the information
on it and where it was filled and what doctor ordered it.
If you are going on vacation, it is best to get a new prescription
from the doctor to take along and have filled at a pharmacy at
your destination. When you give the pharmacy that prescription
for the new refill...also show them your bottle so they see
you have taken it before under doctors orders.
With insurance, they usually have a window of about 5 days
before you run out that you can receive a refill on certain drugs.
Considering you are going on vacation...they may give you a
slight longer time than this. On your prescription bottle it
should state how many refills you have and it might state
when the prescription will run out.
Contact your local pharmacy and ask them. This is the only
way you would know for certain.
Best wishes

You should be able to take your most recent pack of pills to any retail pharmacy. The retail pharmacy you choose will call the mail order place and get the prescription transferred. If you're on a generic, you might get a different one than you're used to (different pharmacies have different named generics for some brand meds). The mail order pharmacy should not refuse to transfer the prescription for you. If they do, ask the pharmacy you walk in to if they will call your Dr and get a new prescription for you - they should explain the issue to the Dr for you. Also, you might want to figure out if you want to get 3 months at a time. It might be a little cheaper this time, and should last you through September. When you run out of your 3rd pack, you should just get 1 pack because by the time you need your next one, you'll be on your husbands insurance.

Well usually when I run out I just ask them for a refill and pay for it.
