    We'll write the second number as x.

    One number is five more than x. The sum of the numbers is -1.

    So, we can write the first number as x+5.

    We know: x+(x+5)=2x+5, and x+(x+5)=-1.

    We write: 2x+5=-1

    Subtract 5 from both sides- 2x=-6

    Divide both sides by two- x=-3

    The second number is x, and the first number is bigger by 5, so the two numbers are 2 and -3.

    Let's check- 2+(-3)= 2-3= -1

    Hope I helped you!

    Y=x+5

    X+y=-1

    So u have the two equations now. Now u know what y is so substitute that equation for y

    X+ (x+5)=-1

    Whatever u do to one side u have to do to the other. So subtract 5 from both sides

    X+x=-6 which is the same as 2x=-6

    Divide both sides by 2

    X=-3

    So now that u know what x is substitute it into first or second equation to find y

    Y=-3+5 which gives you y=2

    OR

    X+y=-1 so substitute -3 for x and that gives you -3+y=-1. Add three to both sides giving you y=2
