Which automotive GPS to get?

I'm looking to buy a GPS, but I am a bit unsure of which to get. I've spent about 3 days reading through different models and reviews and I am caught between the Garmin Nuvi 42LM and Garmin Nuvi 50LM. Does anyone have a recommendation on which is a better model, or a different model that would suit me better? I'm not looking for something with Bluetooth and all the fancy additions. Just something with will get me from point A to point B and is reliable. Thanks!

Between the two you mentioned I'd go with the Nuvi 50LM due to the larger screen. The life time maps is cool if you travel in areas where lots of new roads are being built. Otherwise it's kind of a waste because let's face it old roads rarely go away. As a long time Garmin user I've found upgrading maps to be way over rated. I have the free traffic reports on my current unit but they come with a continuous string of hotel and other ads; very annoying. I turned the traffic thing off. Hope this helps a little.
