Email from FBI agent?
I received an email today which said...
I am an FBI agent and you are now on my list of perpetrators that will need their ip logged, expect my knock on you're door soon.
The email address is irie4ipier@gmail.com.
Is this fake?

Yes, that is a scammer. If a person has your IP address, then can get into your computer, get all your personal numbers, banking information. It is a scam, I would report that to the local police. The person that can be charged with impersonating a police officer, and attempted fraud/theft.
If the FBI was looking for you, they woulf come get you with a warrant for your arrest, the FBI deals with more big time things.

1. An FBI agent wouldn't use gmail for work...
2. An FBI agent wouldn't tell you that they are logging you...
3. An FBI agent wouldn't inform you that they are going to knock on your door...
4. Your question was asked in the UK section, FBI has no jurisdiction outside the US.
5. That email would be way to short to be any formal email from the FBI, it would include their name and position and much more if they actually were authorized to send an email. And they would capitalize IP, and not word this whole thing so briefly.
6. The email address would never be like that, "irie4ipier"... it would be a name...
And 7... the FBI wouldn't bother with you...sounds like the prank of a kid.

Yep, that's a fake. There are a few indicators that give it away:
* If the FBI were really onto you, they wouldn't send an email. They'd come and visit you personally. They also wouldn't send an email to let you know that they were coming- the first thing you'd know is when they paid you a visit.
* The FBI also doesn't inform people that they are under surveillance, surprisingly enough.
* If they did communicate you via email, it would be through an official FBI account, ending in ".gov". They would never use a free gmail address for anything.
* There are a lot of scams around that impersonate the police, FBI, and other agencies. They usually end up demanding money of some form- again, the real FBI would never do this.

Yes.
The FBI do not contact people out of the blue via email, you would receive a letter or a personal visit.
If you were in correspondence with the FBI via email, the address would not be a gmail account. The FBI would use their own domain, the address would look something like 'john.smith@fbi.gov'.
Finally, I would expect the FBI to communicate in a more formal tone, and correct grammar. They would surely not mix up 'your' and 'you're'. I suspect this is a friend of yours playing a trick on you.

Great to see that you were able to respond quickly. It is likely a Phishing Scam. FBI would not use gmail as it is not a secure mail server for them. 'irie' is actually an urban dictionary word and means "to be at total peace with your current state of being". Could be of Jamaican origin. It is likely that irie4ipier gmail account had been broken and used to distribute Emails. Can you tell if there are other recipients of this message? You could have been targeted because you were on a mailing list. I would report it to ActionFraud. ActionFraud are part of the Serious Fraud Office. Even if you have not lost any money on this occasion, should there be a next time, you could well lose.

Of course it's fake. Why would the FBI use a free Gmail account? ALL FBI emails are from @fbi.gov - NOTHING else
You can try reporting this to the FBIs IC3 division as it's a federal offense to impersonate a government official http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Do you really need to ask this question? If you cant tell its fake by the fact it notes a gmail account even though it purports to be from the FBI, then I have a deal for you to help me get $53,000,000 out of Iraq andit will only cost you every cent you currently have.

Of course it is fake. An FBI agent would not send a work-related mail via gmail.
Nor would they give you a warning

Fake.
No FBI agent would contact a person via the internet yet alone use gmail.
It's a hoax.
