I'm a soon-to-be high school freshman...?

And I've heard awful stories about kids who have gotten their lockers broken into and their valuables stolen. I'm going to high school this year and I wanted to hear more stories about this, if it's really true. Also I'm not sure if my school allows us to take our backpacks to class with us so if you could offer some suggestions about what to do with all my stuff or lock suggestions that would be awesome. Thanks in advance! :)

I think you might be over-thinking it a little bit, I have my own horror stories, but it's pretty much common sense. Don't bring expensive stuff to school! Your lockers are on school property, your school can open them whenever they want and search them for whatever they want. You are responsible for whatever you bring to school, if something is stolen, school will not replace it and you will probably not get it back.

You can bring backpacks into class with you, do they expect you to carry your notebook, your pens, your laptop, your text books, you calculator, etc. just in your hands and your pockets? No, not unless you're in a school that's in a detention center and you have contraband that can't be brought from one class to your room to wherever else it is that you need to go, to prevent theft and use of things like pencils, papaercips and pencil sharpeners as weapons. If you're just going to a regular highschool, you're probably going to be able to carry your things around with your, but there are certain things that you are not allowed to have on or near school grounds. Weapons, drugs, items that are banned in a particular school perhaps because of pasts instances where these items were dangerous or inappropriate but may vary from school to school. You should ask the office or guidance counselor for a list of items that are prohibited on campus. If you have insulin needles they might have a rule where you need to check them in with the schools health clinic or nurse.

Also, when I was younger, there were cockroaches in my locker! I carried my stuff with me wherever I went. During gym class I asked to keep my belongings in the office of the gym instructor or the room or area that the class was taking place. I also did not have expensive things, no phone, no jewelry, I had a whole pencil case of pens pencils and even a 40 dollar scientific calculator that was a required purchase for school supplies, and I had to pay another 40 dollars to get a whole new one despite the fact that it had been taken from me and was not lost due to my own negligence.

It's a learning experience on many levels, in life, even in expensive parking garages there are signs on the walls that say "You are responsible for all lost or stolen articles, please remove all valuables from your vehicle". That's life. Watch your back and keep your valuables at home.

It really all depends on your school and town and such. Things like this might be true or have happened if you have like a high crime rate or something. My school lets you carry backpacks around, and I didn't use a locker at all for the whole year. If you are worried about people breaking into your locker, I would suggest not leaving anything too valuable in your locker if you have to use one. Yes, it is a bit of a pain to carry around textbooks all day, but at least I know that all of my things are with me and are not going to get stolen or broken. Personally, I have never heard of anyone breaking into lockers or stealing anything; these things usually only happen if you give your combination to a "friend". Hope this helps!

It all depends on the school you go to. Last year was my freshman year and personally it was just boring. Sure the first month or two was exciting to see all the cute new boys and to figure out how high school worked, but then it just got really slow and some of the kids are down right awful. Just stay away from the messed up kids who melt calculators in the middle of class with their lighters and you should be fine. Oh and get good grades!

This happened to kids at my school and it was in the locker room after school so no one could see... (teachers, adminstrative staff) anyways, here is some things you can do to prevent your stuff from being stolen 1.dont bring your stuff to school!!... I am the same grade as you and u really don't need to use it.. Nothing important in locker = nothing important stolen.. 2. If u must brig ur stuff make sure u hide it good.. If there is holes in the lockers make sure your stuff isn't visible. Or hide it in a coats pocket and stuff the coat somewhere.. Or hide it in a folder.(no one takes folders) 3. Keep your phone on silent and take it with you in your pocket. But usually not as many things are stolen as people say.. Hope this helps and you shouldnt worry to much.

Unless you go looking for trouble you won't find any. In fact middle school was the worst time of my life, high school was better.

Now, you're going to wanna focus on grades right from the start. You might think some of the clubs available are nerdy but swallow your pride because it helps your résumé.

Be a nerd dude, all these football playing party boys will face harsh reality when senior year is over, focus on grades. I know I completely missed your question but you'll find info on locker crap in your first week.

Be yourself and people will admire you trust me. Enjoy high school cause it goes by too fast, class of 14!

Try not to take any valuable items. If you must, keep them with you at all times. I always take my backpack with me. I leave only textbooks and notebooks in my locker. Sometimes a sweater but usually it's just school stuff.
