Mom is all of a sudden sweating profusely suddenly?

Lately my mom has been getting very bad heat flashes. Her face turns red and she has to wipe sweat off of her face, that's the amount of sweat she has. It's embarrassing to her and concerning to me. I at first thought it was maybe menopause but she isn't even 50 yet. What could this be? It happened out of nowhere but has been happening every day.

She needs to see her doctor, this is also a symptom of heart attack in women. BTW, menopause can begin in your 30's.

Peri-menopause is the process of change that leads up to menopause. It can start as early as your late 30s or as late as your early 50s. How long perimenopause lasts varies, but it usually lasts from 2 to 8 years. You may have irregular periods or other symptoms during this time.

Menopause is a natural part of growing older. You don't need treatment for it unless your symptoms bother you. But it's a good idea to learn all you can about menopause. Knowing what to expect can help you stay as healthy as possible during this new phase of your life.

    Common symptoms include:

Irregular periods. Some women have light periods. Others have heavy bleeding. Your menstrual cycle may be longer or shorter, or you may skip periods.

    Hot flashes.

    Trouble sleeping (insomnia).

Emotional changes. Some women have mood swings or feel grouchy, depressed, or worried.

    Headaches.

Feeling that your heart is beating too fast or unevenly (palpitations).

Problems with remembering or thinking clearly.

    Vaginal dryness.

Some women have only a few mild symptoms. Others have severe symptoms that disrupt their sleep and daily lives.

Symptoms tend to last or get worse the first year or more after menopause. Over time, hormones even out at low levels, and many symptoms improve or go away. Then you can enjoy being free from periods and birth control concerns.

Do you need tests to diagnose menopause?

    It's called perimenopause.

Menopause is AFTER periods have stopped.

Women can start these symptoms at any point. The average age is 52 but it can be younger, especially if there are other health issues.

Hot flashes are no big deal. Have her drink lots of cold water when she has one. It will help.

There are prescription medications available, but with many of them the side effects can be serious (including cancer). It's better to tough it out.

more than likely its menopause, you do not have to be 50 to begin going through it there are very young and very late ages to begin. My own mother suffers from the same problem though she is 50 it sounds like plain menopause.

Yep, menopause is coming. She's in perimenopause, and the hormone fluctuations are causing the hot flashes and other symptoms. She can get this checked at her doctor--a blood test will show if this is what's going on.

Some women get menopause early. But I'd be concerned it's something more serious ... like heart related. She should see a doctor.
