Well, many major religious sects fully accept Darwinian evolution... So it shouldn't......
However.... Evolution eliminates the need to postulate a god to account for the diversity of life on the planet.
As I said, that shouldn't cause a problem... One prominent Christian scientist says..."Evolution is how God did it."
But, many in the Abrahamic religions (Jews, Christians, Muslims) are "fundamentalists". They believe that the bible is literally the "word of God", and is free from error and an accurate guide to history. So....They believe the Genesis creation-myth is history.
So...No evolution. The extreme age of the Earth, the appearance of the first primitive life, it's evolution through many hundreds of millions of years into the present diverse species we see now... All seen as threats to this world-view.
To accept evolution, and by extension all of modern science, is to cast doubt on one's religious beliefs.
So, you could see how some religious folks would see evolution as threatening.

Religious belief tends to be cenetered around some specific set of facts that lead a person to think their religion is true. if those facts are the "majesty of modern life on earth" being able to explain it without invoking the powers of a deity could cause those people to question what at one time seemed like unshakable proof of god.

First off you probably don't know that agnostics are also called diests. They believe in God, but not organized religions. I'm one of those. I acknowledge there is a god because my prayers have been answered from time to time (sometimes so promptly its funny).
The difference between Bible-toting Christians and diests is we find our own faith. We can accept evolution because how would God accomplish things? Would he wave a wand and create a giraffe or would he create an animal that evolves into a giraffe? You must keep in mind that time is nothing to God. And, because there is so much to do, he probably didn't work on any one animal exclusively, but set up subroutines in his program to do the work. Yes, I think God is the ultimate programmer. We are his creation and his entertainment. Quick! Do something interesting.

no you can't lead someone away from faith using logic. personally I feel like it work both ways. being an atheist does require a good amount of faith.
