Question for liberals about NY city?

Liberal democrats on the NY city council want to pass a law making it illegal for police to describe suspects by race, gender, height, weight, or hair color. So, please explain, from the liberal prospective of course, just how will police catch criminal suspects if they are not allow to say what said suspect looks like? Oh and please state if you support the proposed law or not?

I hate to disappoint you because I'm sure you keep race-notes on all the "race-types" you come across every day, but many of these so-called police racial descriptions are inane. On the news they say a suspect is "Hispanic looking." In reality, he could be Sicilian or Arab. Some people mean "dark brown" by Hispanic and others mean mocha or beige. You figure it out.

They could use color terms, fine. But "racial" terms are meaningless. There is a Mexican-Indian guy on my street who got a traffic ticket, on the citation there is a box for "race." The cop didn't even check the box- i guess he didn't know what "race" he was. See.

That is not what the law says, so you're just lying or plain ignorant.

The law proposes that police officers cannot use "actual or perceived race ... as the determinative factor in initiating law enforcement action against an individual, rather than an individual's behavior or other information or circumstances."

    Get a clue!

If your assessment of the proposed legislation is correct, then the idea is dumb as a box of rocks.

Thats the ideal but NY is practically a police state. Police can easily make up some story as to why they stop you. They do it in my state

"I saw a tall lean black man with a large scar across his face and a tatoo of obama on his left cheek. He was wearing jeans hanging low with pink striped boxer shorts."

NYPD: "thats too much information sir"

    NYPD: "He was male? correct?"

    eh yea...

"As a Liberal, I support this law. It stops the po-pos from racially profiling people who they think committed crimes. It's racist that they keep saying 'a black man did this, a black man did that' even though it's statistically and factually accurate! Why do Cons have to be hung up on facts so much? Facts are racist!!"

Before I answer I'd like to see a link. I suspect this has more to do with racial profiling and less to do with describing somebody who is already designated as a "suspect."

That sounds extremely stupid. Can I see some sources, by the way?
