A/C vacuum from Harbor Freight Tools -2004 Blazer?

Hey I have a 2004 Blazer and need to replace the A/C compressor. I did it once but never vacuumed the system as you're supposed to do. I guess that's why the compressor failed in two years. Once I change out the compressor, it is either $159 to have it done by the shop, or I see this unit for $15.99 at Harbor Freight Tools. (plus freon of course) Has anyone used one of these? Does anyone know if I need an air compressor on site or is the unit something I can pressurize at the gas station and bring home? Thanks for any answers!

That unit is a venture that allows you to evacuate the system using shop air. It works great, but you need A LOT of shop air, meaning a good size compressor!

In the Harbor Freight description it says; •Pump air consumption: 4.2 CFM @ 90 PSI so you will need a compressor capable of at least that.

It's better to dry out the AC plumbing system with an air compressor with an air dryer on the air line.

You might have a tiny pinhole in the condenser coil in front of the radiator. This is the most common cause for Freon loss and compressor failure.

The AC vacuum is to test for leaks, that's it, it can't "suck out" or blow out all of the old Freon oil or moisture like dry air from a shop air compressor unit can.

    Good Luck!
