Blue Yeti Microphone - Background Noise?
How do I get this microphone to not pick up so much background noise? I always set it to the third setting (can't remember what it's called) for solo recording but it still picks up background noise. My recordings sound like they were recorded with a regular microphone because of the static-like noise in the background and I was convinced prior to purchasing it that it would work almost as well as a studio microphone and certainly better than my iPod, but it's turning out to give results similar to my iPod. As a matter of fact, my iPod seems to give a tad bit better results. It's no problem if I'm recording a song with an instrumental that easily covers up the noise, but it's problematic for songs such as piano ballads that don't cover up the noise at all. Help?

Is the background noise coming from noise in your room? If so, you might consider trying to record in a more quiet location. Get the mic away from anything that makes noise.
If the noise is on the recording itself like buzzing or a hissing sound, you can try playing with the recoding levels. The problem with USB mics is that they tend to pick up electronic noise from the computer - sometimes they work great sometimes not.

My Yeti is set to cardiod which allows me to record with the mute and volume button facing me. This at a slight upward tilt allows me to cut out much of the room noise and focus on my voice. Of course the mic stand itself is sensitive to desktop sounds regardless, So heaving keypunching and desk vibrations make noise but you could negate much of that with a boom stand or something that is attached with a goose neck and suspension rig. The Mic is sensitive so be happy for that but indeed unless you have a marble top or something else heavy that can absorb the sounds on your desktop you ll record much of your actions between mic, mouse and keyboard.
