What is a microphone capsule and what does it do?
Also, why are they sometimes purchased separately? Like some of them I see can purchased by themselves, and don't state that they are used with a specific microphone.
Thanks for any help! Sorry, these are probably some totally basic questions, but I'm just starting to look into them, and don't really know! :)

The capsule is the part of the microphone that picks up the sound. The design of the capsule is responsible for the directivity of the mic (cardioid, omnidirectional, etc.). Dynamic mics will use different capsules to condenser mics.
