I have all the risk factors of heart disease...now what?

I am a 50 year old woman, I am overweight about 50 pounds, I now have diabetes because ALL my overweight is in my belly area, my blood pressure is 180/86, my cholesterol is within the range, my triglycerides are in the normal range.

Over the past few days I've noticed some very weird symptoms and so I looked them up on line:

upper back/lower neck pain, bouts of nausea, tiredness, hiccups for no reason, and I get heartburn off and on for no reason, I am under a lot of pressure and stress with deadlines at work, AND my daughter is getting married.

So I looked it up and all the signs point to heart disease.

Went to the doctor and he said change your lifestyle...stop the stress (Can't do that), lose weight (that takes time), lower your blood sugar (no matter what I do, the stress keeps the sugar level up), get rest (WHEN???), stop smoking ( I have one cigarette every day after dinner). He was really no help. He didn't give me any real ways to heal myself.

I need some real advice on how to reverse this path I'm on. Where can I get started? What have YOU been through and what did YOU do.

Or at least, Yahoo Friends, send me in the right direction for good, sound help.

Update:

I'm ready to make the changes I need to make...but I need some advice on how to get going.

Many people reverse heart disease, diabetes within weeks when switching to a complex carbohydrate diet of grains, beans, vegetables and fruits.Check out these testimonials of people who reversed diseases like you have as well as other problems.

I have learned that all the diseases come from eating too many animal products as a main cause. Americans have a culture where a lot of dairy products and flesh and eggs are eaten as part of a daily diet, however, the body of a human matches up with the herbivores not omnivores or carnivores. Animal products are good survival foods, but if you eat them in excess, you can end up with every disease there is.

And, by the way if you ate those types of foods, you would have better emotions and lose weight too - quickly and easily without going hungry or counting calories. Blood pressure and cholesterol tend to go to normal within a few weeks by eating high fiber foods.

For diabetes, many people have been able to normalize their blood sugar the same, but exercise helps a lot. You can't get rid of your major life events that cause stress, but if you help your body out by eating the foods that were meant for you and your good health, you will much more easily deal with the stress.

That's too bad that you can't get the rest you need. It is so important to your mental, emotional, and physical health to rest. If you don't, you will eventually crash and your body will force you to rest because of some sickness where you just can't go on. So, reprioritize your life really quick and take care of yourself. Talk to your boss, take a day off, get a new job, tell your daughter you can't do anything right now - well, those are just suggestions, but seriously if you can, you should figure something out so you have time to sleep too.

Otherwise, to deal with the stress, you will just have to try to think positive and have the best attitude possible, because your thoughts can influence your emotions. A 15-minute brisk walk daily will boost your serotonin and good feelings better than antidepressants. You need to walk off some of that stress or it will settle in your body as pain.

Try breathing deep whenever you can, drinking water not soda or coffee, smiling, laughing. AND what you put in your mouth. Get the right fuel.

Heart disease - complex carbs not animal and junk

    diabetes - the same

weight - the same and eliminate sources of fat; butter, mayo, oily dressings, cheese, ice cream, beef, chicken, peanut butter, bacon, eggs, anything with fat. Fiber carries out the fat, so eat complex carbs

    lifestyle - ? get a new job?

stress - sleep, complex carbs, attitude, do something for you that's good for you not bad for you

sleep - make time for it or you will be forced to by your body having a crisis

smoking - quit if you can, try carrots, cigarettes don't help you right now, but stress wise you can't deal with too much so mostly focus on diet. Make yourself eat a large carrot before a smoke or 5-10 small carrots

Start doing little good things here and there, have a baked potato with salsa - it's actually good for you, have some beans and brown rice with some salsa, have a vegetable salad with lemon juice and spices, have an apple or banana, have some sugar snap peas, celery, cucumbers to snack on, have minestrone soup. Avoid sugar, it depletes minerals, Have a whole food "green" supplement from the health food store and some B-complex vitamins after a meal (not empty stomach). B-complex helps you deal with stress better.

    Pray, talk things out :)

Uh.....you smoke, you're obese, you're stressed out, you have diabetes - you are a heart attack waiting to happen. That actor died at 51 a few days ago!!!!! There is no way to change this without changing your lifestyle.

The first thing you should do is start walking every day, 10 minutes to start. Every day. 10 minutes.

That's the start. Keep the eating, the smoking. But I think you'll find your stress level will go down with exercise. Then after a couple weeks, start walking 15 minutes. After a couple more weeks, 20 minutes. Then 30 minutes. You will find your stress levels decrease.

After1 month, you WILL feel better guaranteed. Then start trying to eat healthier. Little by little. Protein and veggies should be your lunch and dinner. Keep the walking. You should be up to 15-20 minutes a day.

After another month, see how much weight you've lost, go back to your doctor, have him check your levels. Guaranteed, everything will be lower - gloucose, bp, cholesterol. You'll feel better, you will have lost weight. Start walking faster.

Go to cnn.com, health, weight loss. Lots of stories of people that have lost 100+ lbs. YOU CAN DO IT, TOO!!

You are treating your body badly and this way it's going to pay it back !

Just take a minute and picture your self in an ER after having an attack, what would you be thinking by then ? You are saying i cant do this, i cant do that..but would you still be saying that you couldnt after getting an attack ?

Maybe you cant stop work. but you can reduce the stress. stress is an inner feeling you might be faced by very stressful situations but still cool..just try to lose it up a little bit.

You said losing weight is taking time ! Well every pound you lose will reduce your risk. start working on it and dont be an all or none lady !

You seem to be having a good career, a family..many good things..would you jeopardize it all ?

I wish you a long healthy life
