How long did your cockatiel / parrot live?

I currently have a 23 year old male cockatiel. He's in great health minus the fact that he has start to going blind within this past year. Would consider having him go through surgery, but my avian vet recommended that I don't bother since he's happy and content. I make sure not to move anything in the cage to a different spot since he already knows where everything is.

I had a 20 year old female cockatiel who I just lost 6 months ago due to cancer. There is very little you can do when your bird is diagnosed with cancer. They have a 30 to 50% chance of recovery after surgery. She unfortunately didn't have the strength to recover after her surgery. Cancer is also hereditary in birds, in order to catch this early, you would need to preform x-rays almost every 6 months. They have to sedate the bird, so average price for a bird x-ray is $300.

My avian vet said the oldest cockatiel he has seen personally is a 35 years old.

It depends on how happy it was and did it get a lot of stress and did it eat good healthy fresh foods vegetables and fruits. Okay let's say it did it healthy vegetables and was happy.
