What podcasts do you listen to and why?
I enjoy listening to The Non Prophets, it feels personal, honest, and open to many topics. I enjoy the Atheist Experience as well, for many reasons but I've enjoyed that show for many years. I also quite like Philosophise This!, hearing coloquial interpretations, and provoking thoughts.
I don't really know anyone else who listens to podcasts at all, so I was hoping to find some good suggestions.
What do you listen to; why? Which would you recommend if I only had the chance to hear one?
Thanks
1 AnswerPolls & Surveys7 years agoDo I need to see Rise of the Planets of the apes before the new one?
I wanted to go see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on my birthday tomorrow, but I didn't see Rise of the Planet of the apes. Is it a direct (linked) sequel? Will I have missed anything important, or should I probably watch the other one first tonight?
Thank you
2 AnswersMovies7 years agoDo you know your music videos? Please tell me what this song was?
It's a rock song, fairly new. The guy gets a text that his band got a gig and he needs to show up at a certain time. I think it starts with him being hungover waking up in his car, he needs to repair his guitar at some point but he had been mugged and so he takes off with it after it got repaired (without paying). Nothing is going right for him.
I can't remember for the life of me what the lyrics or anything were.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks
1 AnswerOther - Music7 years agoI want to hear some good music from other cultures (not just North American pop culture)?
I was listening to a song from Chinese Idol with two people singing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97n2Y8Wdgps) and I really liked it - a mix of traditional and modern vocals and instrumentation. I would like more music like this. Traditional music, modern music; old or new - or a mix of both.
[A sample of music I usually listen to is stuff like KoRn, Linkin Park, Eminem, Danko Jones, Kittie, The Beatles, Maximum the Hormone, Beck, RHCP, Wide Mouth Mason, System of a Down, Queen, Mudvayne, Staind to list a few for a sample.]
I have a particular affinity for Japanese culture, but I am looking for a mix of good music from around the world. Africa, India, China, Brazil, Aboriginal groups, or wherever you happen to be from or know music from!
Thank you!
2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture7 years agoHow to cook dried mixed beans?
I have some mixed dried beans. I want to make chili in a crock pot, I was going to soak the beans overnight but I see there are split peas, and lentils (and split orange something? I don't know if that's a type of pea?) They don't have to be soaked, but is it okay if they are? It doesn't seem to make sense that I'd have to sort them each time.
Thanks
4 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan7 years agoWill my beta's fin regrow?
I have a fancy beta, just under a year old. We thought he had gotten sick and were expecting him to die as he was always just lying on the bottom of the tank breathing heavily. (He is in a 5.5 gallon tank with a heater and filter). I've realized though, what I thought may have been fin rot is actually an injury, he is missing like 2/3 of the back of his tail fin (the fin that follows out from the back of his body streamline, not above or below him). He has a lot of trouble swimming and seems exhausted as he struggles to swim up for food. I think he got stuck to the filter grate and tore up his tail, it's all tattered and half gone.
What should I do for him?
2 AnswersFish7 years agoWho do you sponsor a child through?
I just wanted to hear different peoples sponsorship stories. I want to know:
How did you choose an organization?
How much contact is there between you and the child?
Is the organization religious?
Can you send items or gifts to the child?
Thank you :)

2 AnswersOther - Food & Drink8 years agoWhat computer program should I use for this file?
I wanted to make a list of movies with titles, years, genres, and my personal rating (1-5 stars or something). I want to be able to search by those individual categories.
I was thinking of just using a table in Microsoft Word and use ctrl+f for searching, but I figured someone might know something better.
Thanks.
2 AnswersSoftware8 years agoWhy is my snail just lying on the rocks?
We got a black mystery snail to put in with our betta. I see him move and eat, but he is usually just lying on the bottom of the tank. He often is lying on his shell with his soft bottom exposed, but he does get out of this position on his own. I have another tank with tetras and shrimp, two sunshine snails, and a large mystery snail, they don't do this. We got the two mystery smails from the same pet store tank.
Any ideas?
PS. I do put algae wafers in the betta tank periodically (at night so the betta doesn't eat it).
2 AnswersFish8 years agoWhat should I read/see to learn about ancient culture?
I've been really interested in ancient history lately. I want to read the Mahabharata and greek mythology etc. I want to learn more about things like Angkor Wat, Chichen Itza, ancient Egypt, Mayan culture etc.
Not specifically only those things, but things like that. Any suggestions for some good reads? Books or online reading. Or videos too. Thanks.
3 AnswersMythology & Folklore8 years agoDoes evolution/other modern scientific theory say anything about...?
The advancement of life systems elsewhere?
As in, is it believed that evolution would be a consistent process on other planets that had water and a sun in the right proximity? Or are our discoveries and scientific systems only for earth? Do scientists think that our evolutionary process would be similar to that elsewhere?
Just a thought.
7 AnswersOther - Science8 years agoWhy are his shirts always heavy and smelly?
I usually wash and fold the laundry for my fiance and I. Even before we moved out of our parents' houses, I remember his shirts having this problem.
I can tell which shirt is going to smell bad (like stale water or something) when I first pick it up to fold it because it's heavy. Around the chest and back of the shoulders it feels almost oily, like it leaves a thin residue on the fingers. It's only his shirts, even when washed in the same load as mine. Only cotton t-shirts too I believe.
It drives me nuts and I feel like I just want to throw them out! Has anyone else experienced this?
2 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoWhat's it like to have a Chihuahua?
I always said I never wanted one, they were anti-social (except towards their owners) and often snotty or mean. Also they seem to be secluded and defensive, which often turns into being yappy and loud.
I've only know one person who owned two, though. One was a fat little sweetheart who loved everyone, and the other one was mean and would snap at your ankles if you walked within four feet of it.
We were thinking of getting a dog, I would prefer a large breed but as we might decide to road trip across Canada for a couple of years it needs to be a small dog.
I would ideally love an english bulldog or french bulldog, (or a pug but I don't like over shedding and having to clean their faces). I like Staffordshire Bull Terrier too, but perhaps it would be too big (and I've never seen one for adoption)?
What has your experience been?
Thank you - will choose a best answer :)

3 AnswersBirds8 years agoAquarium snails: if they're bigger are they older?
I have a pearl snail with my betta, and two sunshine snails with the tetras. The sunshines are a couple years old, they're kind of small and haven't grown. The pearl snail is bigger than the other two, but is younger.
When we bought the pearl there were snails with it up to 5x its size, but I always assumed that meant they were older.
What determines snail size?
1 AnswerFish8 years agoHow much time does a hamster injury need to heal?
We dropped our dwarf hamster from about 5 feet onto carpet, he was stunned/unmoving for about four seconds. He injured his right arm (not sure if at the wrist or joint), and didn't put weight on it at all for three days. Two days after that he was only just starting to put it down when he walked, during this time we accidentally gave him too much asparagus as a treat and he became sick with yellow diarrhea and had very little energy. Today, just over a week since dropping him he has his normal inquisitive energy back, the asparagus lump in his belly is gone but he's still bloated. His bottom is clean so I don't think he has the runs anymore and he is weight bearing on the hurt paw.
Can he go for a run in his ball yet? He used to spend over an hour in it each day he loved it so much, but I don't want him getting hurt. Thanks - will choose a best answer.
