Why is iodine added to salt, but not other food?

    It's the most used item on all tables, everywhere. Iodine is necessary for your thyroid, this is why goiters are unheard of this day and age. Bring on the iodized salt-cook with it, brush your teeth with it, add to veggies and meats at home and what is a french fry without good ole salt...YUM

    Because everyone eats salt, but doesn't eat absurd quantities of it.

    How do you gauge the amount of any given item someone might eat in their diet?
