How to cook dried mixed beans?
I have some mixed dried beans. I want to make chili in a crock pot, I was going to soak the beans overnight but I see there are split peas, and lentils (and split orange something? I don't know if that's a type of pea?) They don't have to be soaked, but is it okay if they are? It doesn't seem to make sense that I'd have to sort them each time.
Thanks
They're from the bulk store - no package/directions. I thought the soaking made it easier to digest, or help reduce gassiness?

Beans don't have to be soaked overnight. Just put them in a bowl, pour boiling water over then and let them sit for an hour.
Just some info since you want to make chili. Do NOT add the tomatoes until the beans are as soft as you want them to be. The acid in the tomatoes prevents the beans from getting soft.

You ordinarily don't have to pre-soak lentils and split peas. If the others were in the same package as those two, then they're unlikely to need to ge pre-soaked. Lentils do come in different colors and so do peas - usually a shade of yellow - some are a pale orange color. I suggest you simply boil them up according to package directions (you DID save the package, didn't you?) and add whatever flavoring you like. There'll be several flavoring suggestions on the package.

I never have. they take the same amount of time to cook whether you soak them or not, they just take more water if you don't soak them. You gain nothing by soaking them.
The split orange things are split yellow peas.
